Police Officer 2 Position Type: Classified Department: LSUA FA - Police Uniform Patrol Shift 2 Work Location: LSU - Alexandria Pay Grade: Classified Protective Services Special Entrance Rate (SER): Current SER (Hourly) $19.88, Biweekly $1,590.40, Annually $41,350.40 Responsibilities Protection of Life and Property – Protect lives and property through active foot patrol (brisk walking or running) and mobile patrol. Use defensive tactics and necessary law enforcement equipment including hand‑to‑hand techniques, chemical agents, baton, taser, firearm, and handcuffs. Enforce laws and university regulations; investigate crimes and accidents; retain and document critical information; maintain and process official records. Perform additional duties as directed by LSUA Command Staff or the Chief of Police. May be required to qualify annually at the firing range. Enforcement of Parking and Traffic Regulations – Enforce parking, traffic, and campus regulations. Issue citations to violators and apply wheel locks to repeat offenders. Direct traffic when appropriate. Patrol parking lots to ensure proper decals, current tags, and appropriate parking. Provide courtesy assistance to staff and students, including assistance with locked vehicles, flat tires, and dead batteries. Evidence Collection and Agency Assistance – Assist with collection and documentation of evidence related to thefts, harassment, assaults, and accidents. Coordinate and assist Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office, Louisiana State Police, and other law enforcement agencies during emergencies. Transport and detain subjects as necessary. Emergency Response and Public Safety Support – Provide first aid and emergency assistance to faculty, staff, students, and the public. Serve on the First Aid Team and Campus Safety Committee. Escort first responders to on‑campus emergencies. Report hazards such as street obstructions, utility issues, or unsafe conditions. Provide escort services during peak registration periods and appear in court as required to testify regarding incidents and arrests. Interagency Communication – Maintain a close working relationship with local and state law enforcement agencies. Utilize communication radios to maintain 24‑hour contact with 911 Emergency Communication Centers, fire departments, ambulance services, and other emergency agencies. Professional Conduct and Additional Duties – Work independently during routine and emergency patrols. Demonstrate self‑motivation and proactive performance. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications One year of law‑enforcement experience. Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will substitute for one year of required experience. Applicants must have Civil Service test scores for 2100‑Protective Services Exam (PSE). Proof of exemption may be attached if exempted by Civil Service rule or policy. Applicant must have and maintain a current class E driver’s license. Applicant must have an active Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification. May be required. Applicant must be at least 18 years of age. Applicant must not be convicted of a felony or under indictment on a felony charge unless relief from disabilities is granted. Applicant must work flex shifts covering various AM and PM shifts while working supervised. Applicant must complete a POST course and may be required to qualify annually at the firing range.
