Medical Billing Supervisor

Position The Medical Billing Supervisor plans, organizes, and supervises the medical insurance billing functions and accounting/clerical staff for the Department of Health and Social Services’ Medical Billing Unit. The role assists in developing, implementing, and maintaining the department‑specific patient accounting and billing systems; serves as the electronic health record billing liaison between the County and the State; and resolves technical billing problems in coordination with the claims management system and clearing house provider. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate will be highly organized and detail‑oriented with extensive experience in reviewing, reconciling, processing, and maintaining fiscal transactions, accounts, and statistical data and records. A strong foundation in medical billing is expected, along with working knowledge of the methods, practices, and terminology used in insurance and medical billing and a solid understanding of fundamental accounting principles. The candidate must be adept at managing competing demands and multiple priorities, and reflect the County’s Core Values. Education and Experience Education: Associate degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university with a major in medical billing and coding, healthcare accounting, or a closely related field that includes healthcare industry rules, regulations, and current procedural code sets and guidelines for medical billing and coding. Experience: Three (3) years of direct experience in medical billing and coding or medical accounts receivables; of which one year must have been lead or supervisory experience in any field. Licensing, Certification and Registration Requirements Possession of one valid and current certification such as Certified Coding Associate (CCA), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Documentation Expert‑Outpatient (CDEO), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), or a related credential from a recognized accredited college, university, or professional association. Employees must keep their licenses, certifications, and registrations current while employed; failure to do so may constitute cause for personnel action in accordance with Civil Service Rules and/or applicable bargaining agreement. The position may require possession of a California Driver’s License, Class C.
