This position requires 12-hour shifts with a varied schedule including days, evenings, and nights.

Job Description

The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for delivering general nursing care by utilizing the nursing process. This care is provided directly or through appropriate delegation of duties to supervised staff members.

Responsibilities

Assess and evaluate patient needs, initiating and updating nursing care plans in collaboration with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
Establish realistic patient goals, identify teaching needs, and address discharge concerns.
Administer prescribed medications and treatments, including fluid and respiratory therapy.
Perform technical skills and utilize equipment within the assigned areas.
Enforce infection control policies and procedures to ensure patient safety.
Organize time and resources effectively to provide high-quality patient care while prioritizing tasks appropriately.
Recognize and interpret symptoms, report patient conditions, and take necessary remedial actions during adverse developments.
Communicate significant information accurately to physicians and other healthcare team members.
Respond appropriately to stressful, unusual, or emergency situations.
Initiate patient and family teaching, assessing their understanding of diseases and objectives for care.
Assist in orienting new staff members and support their ongoing learning.
Maintain professional and clinical competence through continuing education programs.
Assume responsibility as the nurse in charge when required, promoting a positive work environment and effective problem-solving.
Provide safe and effective nursing care in accordance with the South Dakota Nurse Practice Act and recognized nursing standards.
Accurately observe, report, and record patient conditions and treatments.
Educate patients and families about medication administration and adherence to prescribed treatments.
Coordinate shift activities of assigned staff to ensure continuity of nursing services and quality improvement.
Maintain good interpersonal relationships and confidentiality to uphold the integrity of the nursing staff.
Follow safety and infection control policies to ensure a safe and clean environment.

Education and Experience Requirements

Current registration as a licensed nurse in the State of South Dakota.
Current CPR certification.
Able to obtain ACLS and PALS certification within six months of hire.
TNCC certification for solo Emergency Room coverage within six months of hire.
