Middle School Girls Basketball Coach (Kennedy)

Responsibilities: The coach of an individual sport must realize that any activity sponsored by Waltham Athletics is part of the total program offered by Waltham Public Schools. Candidates should have experience coaching at the youth and/or middle school or high school level in this sport, have strong communication skills, and the ability to work as part of a team to ensure the success of our student-athletes. Individuals in charge of such activities must utilize sound educational principles and goals of athletics are to be a worthwhile part of the overall school experience. Duties include but are not limited to: modeling the behaviors outlined in the NFHS Coaches Code of Ethics, especially those pertaining to sportsmanship; demonstrating full control of the team in all matters pertaining to coaching and athletic discipline; facilitating supervision of athletes during practice sessions and at all contests, home or away of the sport coached including supervision of the weight room, locker room, shower areas and buses before and after practices and contests; implementing WPS athletic department policies and team rules; being responsible for information contained in the Middlesex League bylaws and the McDevitt Student Handbook; attending all Athletic Department and WPS meetings that relate to the sport coached; staying informed of rule changes, trends, and recommendations that affect their particular sport; responsible for team evaluation and selection; developing and organizing effective practice plans; providing effective feedback for competitive growth and development; making sure that the facilities and equipment are safe and that safety procedures are taught and followed in all areas; implementing game plans and game management where appropriate including score reporting and return officials vouchers immediately following a contest; fostering partnerships with athletic groups in the community to create continuity in programming at various levels; being encouraged to offer clinics and camps; establishing avenues of communication with other adults to identify potential resources for the enhancement of WPS athletes and athletics; developing an approach to coaching which encourages outreach to the caregivers of the athletes and invested stakeholders; working with the WPS Athletic staff for distribution and collection of the school's athletic equipment and uniforms before, during and after the coaching season, including safety devices and materials; working collaboratively with all other Waltham Public Schools coaches, under the direction of the Athletic Director. This includes, but is not limited to: working to coordinate schedules of games, practices, and events. Other duties/responsibilities assigned by the Director of Athletics.
