Trial Attorney

Role : Corporate Partner Compensation Senior Trial Attorney

Location: New York, New York

We are seeking an experienced trial attorney (Partner-level) to manage a number of complex cases broadly referred to as the O’Neill Case. The successful candidate will have substantial experience prosecuting federal cases, trying cases before judges and juries, and managing large-scale litigation involving numerous parties and voluminous discovery. This attorney will also serve as a primary point of contact for a large client base, requiring exceptional judgment, discretion, and interpersonal skill in managing difficult client relationships and complex litigation strategy simultaneously.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Manage and litigate a substantial and complex caseload including investigation, client intake and managing the case through resolution, trial, and appeal, as needed.
• Serve as lead or co-lead counsel in trials, hearings, and dispositive motion practice.
• Oversee case strategy, discovery planning, and pretrial preparation for large, multi-party, or document-intensive matters.
• Manage relationships with a high volume of clients, including addressing difficult, sensitive, or high-conflict client situations with professionalism and sound judgment.
• Draft and review pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery requests and responses, and other litigation documents.
• Conduct legal research and analysis to support case strategy and client counseling.
• Supervise and mentor junior attorneys, paralegals, and support staff assigned to case teams, as applicable.
• Coordinate with co-counsel, opposing counsel, investigators, expert witnesses, and other stakeholders.
• Communicate clearly and effectively with clients, colleagues, and supervisors regarding case status, risk, and strategy.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable court rules, ethical obligations, and internal case management protocols.
• Maintain accurate, organized, and timely case files and records in accordance with office policy.
• Represent the office professionally in court, in negotiations, and in public-facing settings.

Required Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
• Active admission to practice law in the State of New York, in good standing.
• Prior experience with the United States Attorney's Office (as an Assistant United States Attorney or in a comparable federal prosecutorial capacity).
• Demonstrated federal prosecution experience, including handling matters through indictment, plea, or trial.
• Substantial first- or second-chair trial experience, including jury trials.
• Demonstrated experience managing large, complex litigation matters, including multi-defendant, multi-party, or document-intensive cases.
• Demonstrated experience managing a high volume of clients within complex litigation, including experience navigating difficult or high-conflict client relationships.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop creative, practical solutions to complex legal and factual issues.
• Excellent oral and written communication and advocacy skills.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage competing deadlines across multiple active matters.
• Sound judgment, high ethical standards, and the ability to exercise discretion with sensitive and confidential information.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a case team.

Preferred Qualifications

• Federal or state court clerkship experience.
• Experience supervising or mentoring junior attorneys or support staff.
• Additional admission to practice in federal district or appellate courts within New York.
• Experience with e-discovery platforms and complex case management technology.
