Sr. Software Engineer, AWS Discounts

Salary: $168,400 - 168,400 per year Requirements:

• We require 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
• We require 5+ years of programming experience in at least one software language.
• We require 5+ years of experience leading design or architecture for new and existing systems, including design patterns, reliability, and scaling.
• We require experience as a mentor, technical lead, or engineering team lead.
• Preferred: 5+ years of full software development lifecycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
• Preferred: A bachelors degree in computer science or an equivalent background.
• Preferred: Experience building complex software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers.
• Preferred: Knowledge of system performance, memory management, and parallel computing principles.

• We design and build distributed systems that apply discount logic at AWS scale, processing billions of usage events and generating discount line items across UBD, PRC, ABD, CSD, EDP, and other mechanisms.
• We build configuration-driven discount platforms that let sales, service, and finance teams create new discount structures without engineering changes.
• We ensure every discount is accurate, auditable, and traceable from contract terms through to the invoice line item.
• We partner with AWS sales, finance, and service teams such as EC2, Marketplace, Bedrock, and APN to translate complex enterprise deal structures into scalable billing solutions.
• We mentor engineers and help raise the bar for code quality, operational excellence, and engineering rigor across the team.

We are the AWS Bill Generation - Discounts team, responsible for the billing systems that compute discount-based derived line items for AWS customers worldwide, including usage-based, private rate card, cross-service, prepayment, and volume discounts. We also own CBAS, a platform we built to run our largest and most complex customer contracts, and we are migrating it to scalable standard discounting infrastructure. Our work helps AWS close enterprise deals, retain strategic customers, and scale discount programs without engineering bottlenecks.
