Customer Service Representative

Overview Mechanics Bank is searching for a Customer Service Representative to join our on‑site team. The role involves performing basic to moderately complex banking transactions under general supervision, providing high‑level service, and ensuring operational quality and accuracy. Responsibilities Transaction Processing Perform routine teller transactions (deposits, withdrawals, check cashing, payments, transfers, mail and night‑drop transactions) Verify and process basic to more complex customer transactions according to established procedures and security guidelines Assist customers with account reconcilment, copies of statements and checks, order checks, account closures, address changes, stop payments, debit card maintenance, and safe deposit box entrances Assist at other branches as needed Customer Services & Sales Provide exemplary service in person and over the phone, presenting the bank professionally Respond to inquiries accurately, promptly, and efficiently Identify additional customer needs and recommend products and services Explain features, benefits, rates, fees, and restrictions of banking products Educate customers on banking technology, such as mobile and online banking Cash Handling & Security Maintain and balance a cash supply, following all cash‑handling policies and procedures Balance cash at the end of each shift Review customer transactions for red flags and fraudulent items Maintain awareness of criminal scams against banking customers Refer unresolved issues to Branch Management and appropriate departments Assist in the opening and closing of the branch, following security procedures Administrative & Compliance Tasks Gather data and process reports and forms (e.g., Currency Transaction Reports, Reg CC, holds, overdraft) Ensure compliance with bank policies, the Bank Secrecy Act/Anti‑Money Laundering, and regulatory programs Assist with branch audit functions as requested Complete required compliance by assigned due dates Qualifications High School Degree or GED required (additional experience may be considered) Minimum 1 year experience in a banking environment with basic knowledge of deposit products and services 1 year in customer service and cash handling in a customer‑facing role required Excellent interpersonal skills, attention to detail, customer‑service orientation Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively as a team member Ability to make decisions using available information Basic knowledge of bank deposit products and services Ability to understand customer loan requests and make appropriate referrals Ability to understand customer requests for additional services and make appropriate referrals Knowledge of applicable bank policies and procedures ADA Requirements The physical demands described here represent those necessary to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
