Overview USD 20.00 Hourly | EARLY LEARNING CENTER in Early Learning Center Seasonal The Early Learning Center (ELC) Lead Camp Counselor is a seasonal Full-time position responsible for creating a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate camp environment specifically designed for young children (6 months - 1 year old). Under the direction of the Camp Director and in collaboration with the Director of Education Programs, the ELC Site Director plans and implements engaging, play-based daily activities rooted in early childhood development principles—including literacy, arts, math, science, nature, and recreation. This role provides direct supervision of campers, guides support staff and volunteers, maintains strong communication with families, and ensures compliance with YMCA, Department of Health, and OEC guidelines throughout the summer program. Reports To Director of Education Programs / ELC Site Director Pay Range $20/hour – $24/hour (based on experience and certification) Essential Functions Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of children through close supervision. Plan, organize, and lead developmentally appropriate activities. Activities may include crafts, nature, songs, games, water play, outside park time and walks. Communicate with parents and families about children’s experiences and behavior management. Collaborate as a supportive team member within the Early Childhood Learning Center. Maintain a clean, safe classroom environment and report potential hazards. Prepare food and create a family-style eating environment that fosters development. Maintain accurate program records including incident reports, logbook documentation, and daily attendance Ensure compliance with YMCA, Department of Health, and OEC guidelines. Demonstrate professionalism in the performance of all duties as directed by your supervisors. Reliably work assigned shifts. Qualifications Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field, or a Child Development Associate Credential Preferred Minimum of 2 years experience caring for young children Knowledge of childhood development principles. Ability to create engaging, play-based activities. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Patience, creativity, and a passion for working with young children. Must pass BCIS/OEC medical examination and meet other OEC requirements. Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) are a plus. Work Environment & Physical Demands Remain active throughout the workday (walking, engaging with children). Move around the classroom to assist and supervise children. Lift young children and objects up to 50 lbs. Demonstrate emotion regulation and remain calm in stressful situations. Adapt to varying noise levels in the work environment.
