Interim Assistant Controller

Interim Assistant Controller Southwest Indianapolis, IN (Onsite) – Contract / Interim Opportunity | 3-6+ Months Our client, a growing company located on the southwest side of Indianapolis, is seeking a Interim Assistant Controller to provide hands‑on accounting leadership and operational support during a transitional period. This role is ideal for an experienced accounting professional who thrives in fast‑paced environments, enjoys digging into details, and can quickly stabilize and improve accounting processes. This position will work closely with the CFO and will oversee day‑to‑day accounting operations including month‑end close, job cost analysis, and financial reporting. Responsibilities Manage all accounting operations, including AP, AR, payroll, and general ledger activities Own month‑end processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation Maintain and improve internal controls, accounting processes, and documentation procedures Support cash flow management, forecasting, and budget tracking Assist with preparation of financial reports for ownership and external stakeholders Partner with operations/project managers to ensure accurate project billing, cost allocation, and revenue recognition Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field 5+ years of progressive accounting experience Prior experience as Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, Senior Accountant, or similar leadership role Experience with ERP/accounting systems such as Sage, QuickBooks, Viewpoint, Foundation, or similar preferred Advanced Excel skills Ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, and quickly assess accounting issues in a transitional environment Ideal Candidate Hands‑on and willing to roll up sleeves in a lean accounting department Comfortable balancing strategic oversight with transactional detail Experience stepping into organizations needing process improvement, cleanup, or additional accounting structure Strong communicator who can partner effectively with ownership and operational teams Compensation & Benefits Competitive hourly rate based on experience Eligible for discretionary bonuses Medical, dental, and vision benefits 401(k) retirement plan Equal Opportunity Employer Vaco by Highspring is an Equal Opportunity Employer and does not discriminate against any employee or applicant for employment because of race (including but not limited to traits historically associated with race such as hair texture and hair style), color, sex (includes pregnancy or related conditions), religion or creed, national origin, citizenship, age, disability, status as a veteran, union membership, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, marital status, political affiliation, or any other protected characteristics as required by federal, state or local law.
