Senior Thermal Mechanical Design Engineer

Intuitive Surgical seeks a Senior Thermal Mechanical Design Engineer to develop and verify mechanical designs for medical devices, including thermal systems, robotic actuation, and sensing solutions. The role involves prototyping, analysis, design documentation, and cross-functional collaboration with manufacturing and suppliers.

Responsibilities

• Perform thermal system design, analysis, verification, and testing
• Design mechanical assemblies considering kinematics, drivetrains, motors, sensors, and failure modes
• Develop and iterate full-scale prototypes to meet functional requirements
• Create design specifications, documentation, and conduct design FMEA in regulated environments
• Lead component and system verification testing; mentor and guide engineering team members

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering minimum
• 8+ years of product development experience across design, analysis, verification, and manufacturing transfer
• Expertise in thermal system architecture, design, analysis, and simulation
• Proficiency with mechanism design, servo motors, sensors, robotics, or related actuation systems
• Advanced CAD skills in SolidWorks or equivalent; GD&T and tolerance stack analysis
• Hands-on prototyping experience including 3D printing and machine shop equipment
• MATLAB proficiency for test scripts and system software
