Part-Time Community Independence Coach

$36.00–$42.00 per hour | Lower Westchester County, NY

15–25 hours/week | Primarily Monday–Friday, Daytime Hours

W-2 Employment | PTO | Paid Holidays Where Applicable

The Lassen Group is seeking two experienced Community Independence Coaches to work one-on-one with an engaging young adult with Autism and mild Cerebral Palsy.

He enjoys basketball, swimming, fitness, theater, art, cooking, games, creative projects, and community outings. His coaches will share these experiences with him while helping him build confidence, independence, social connection, and practical life skills.

A typical day may include attending a class, working out, preparing a meal, going to a performance, completing a project, or trying something new in the community. The coach will participate alongside him and recognize where thoughtful support can lead to meaningful progress.

This role requires patience, empathy, and the judgment to know when to guide, when to adjust, and when to let him take the lead. He independently manages his personal care and daily routines. His tutors handle academic instruction, leaving coaching time focused on community participation, social development, physical activity, and growing independence.

Experience and Qualifications

Prior experience must go beyond familiarity with autism or time spent in a support setting. Candidates should be ready to build rapport, plan meaningful activities, respond thoughtfully in the moment, and support skill development at home and in the community.

Applicants must bring either:

• At least five years of relevant hands-on experience supporting children, teens, or young adults with autism or comparable developmental disabilities; or
• At least two years of relevant hands-on experience and a college degree in special education, psychology, social work, occupational therapy, speech-language pathology, behavioral science, therapeutic recreation, human development, or a closely related field

Experience can come from many settings and job titles. What matters is the depth of the work. Strong candidates will have helped someone develop greater independence, strengthen social or practical skills, participate in the community, or work toward behavioral and developmental goals.

Paraprofessionals, school aides, direct-support professionals, and candidates from clinical or therapeutic settings are encouraged to apply when their experience includes direct responsibility for an individual’s engagement, development, and progress.

The position may be especially well suited to graduate students and early-career professionals preparing for work in psychology, ABA, occupational therapy, speech-language pathology, special education, social work, therapeutic recreation, or a related field.

Schedule and Work Environment

The position is approximately 15–18 hours per week, primarily during weekday daytime hours. Applicants should be able to make a good-faith commitment through approximately April 2027.

Work takes place in the family’s home and throughout the community. The family arranges and pays for transportation during scheduled activities. Coaches are responsible for getting to and from the home. Potential public transportation assistance may be available.

Applicants must be comfortable around French Bulldogs. The home and community programs are smoke-free and vape-free.

Compensation and Support

Community Independence Coaches are W-2 employees of Service Response Partners, LLC and receive:

• $36.00–$42.00 per hour, based on qualifications and relevant experience
• Paid Time Off based on hours worked
