Pipefitter Helper

The Pipefitter Helper supports experienced pipefitters and foremen with the installation of commercial HVAC and mechanical piping systems. This is a hands-on field position for a dependable employee who wants to develop pipefitting skills while contributing safely and productively to project work. Responsibilities Essential Duties and Responsibilities Load, unload, stage, organize, and identify pipe, fittings, valves, supports, tools, and equipment. Assist with measuring, cutting, threading, grooving, beveling, cleaning, and preparing pipe under direction. Assist with the installation of hangers, supports, anchors, sleeves, guides, valves, fittings, pumps, coils, and equipment connections. Support the layout and installation of chilled-water, hot-water, condenser-water, steam, condensate, refrigerant, and other mechanical piping systems as assigned. Use hand and power tools safely, including drills, impacts, grinders, saws, pipe threaders, groovers, and material-handling equipment when trained and authorized. Maintain clean work areas, protect materials, and help prepare systems for testing, flushing, insulation, and inspection. Follow drawings, measurements, instructions, and established installation sequences. Communicate material shortages, damaged components, conflicts, and safety concerns promptly. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications At least six months of paid, hands-on construction or mechanical-trade field experience; pipefitting or plumbing experience is strongly preferred. Ability to read a tape measure accurately and perform basic trade math. Basic understanding of hand tools, power tools, and safe material handling. Dependable attendance, reliable transportation, and ability to report to changing project locations. Ability to follow detailed instructions and work effectively as part of a crew. High school diploma or GED preferred, or equivalent work experience. Preferred Qualifications Commercial HVAC or mechanical piping exposure. OSHA 10, NCCER Core, registered-apprenticeship participation, or related technical training. Experience operating lifts, forklifts, pipe threaders, or grooving equipment. Physical and Work Requirements Lift and carry up to 50 pounds and assist with heavier material using proper equipment and team-lifting practices. Work from ladders, lifts, rooftops, mechanical rooms, construction areas, and other elevated or restricted locations. Stand, bend, kneel, climb, reach, and work with tools for extended periods. Work in indoor and outdoor environments with changing temperatures, noise, dust, and active construction conditions.
