About the Department of Learning and Engagement The Department of Learning and Engagement at The Museum of Modern Art supports the Museum’s founding educational mission to ensure that people of all ages and abilities “enjoy, understand and use” the art of our time in ways that add value to their lives. The department collaborates across the organization to empower a diverse public to form their own interpretations and connections to art by telling stories, asking questions, actively making and participating in the artistic process, and offering and listening to multiple perspectives. Programs offered by the department range from artist-driven activations to classes, online courses, studio programs, facilitated gallery explorations, workshops, publications and more. Position Summary Working under the Division of Young Learners within the Department of Learning and Engagement, the Petrie Fellow supports the planning, administration, and facilitation of Young Learners programs and initiatives with a focus on Teen Programs. In supporting Teen Programs, the Fellow will be exposed to the process by which MoMA’s Teen Programs are developed and executed, including best practices in teaching and facilitating teens, working with living artists to create programs for young audiences, administration, event and program coordination, and project management. This is a two-year grant funded position. Responsibilities Directly assists the Assistant Educator, Teen Programs. Participates in planning sessions with staff, contractors, and evaluation specialists. Welcomes, engages, and teaches youth audiences across a number of hands-on projects and programs. Provides coordination and administrative support for virtual and live teen public programming, including travel, hospitality, and all related event logistics. Conducts off-site outreach and visits NYC schools across all five boroughs to build relationships and communicate program opportunities with educators, community organizations, and partners, promoting MoMA Young Learners and MoMA Teens offerings. Collects and documents program data, including participation numbers, participant feedback, and observational notes on curriculum and program activities, to support ongoing evaluation. Liaises between departments to advance program production, marketing, and promotional needs where appropriate. Communicates with members of the Group and Tours, Graphic Design, and Security departments for event and program logistics. Provides on-site support during programs, including weekends and evenings. Delivers facilitated explorations of art in the galleries, maintaining a high quality of customer Assists in the planning for and facilitation of teen meetings, including off site excursions, meetings, discussions and more. Maintains communication through email and social media on MoMA Teens offerings and updates, as well as the general public through email and phone inquiries. Organizes programming marketing newsletters, coordinating with editorial, membership, and social media colleagues. Documents and organizes art materials and storage.Oversees all aspects of program set-up and cleanup, staying through the end of each session and assisting teaching artists and full-time educators with any additional needs. Participates in Fellows cohort, including professional development sessions. Performs any other duties reasonably related to the functions described above. Requirements Bachelor’s degree in a related field (youth development, fine arts, art education, arts administration, museum education, or related degree) or equivalent experience Experience/strong interest in working with youth (ages 14 - 19 years old). Passion for teaching within the arts and engaging with youth. Exceptional time-management and personal organization skills. Proactive communicator with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated flexibility to succeed in a fast-paced, changing environment. Ability to multitask and manage ongoing project deadlines. Experience/strong interest in teaching groups, leading tours, and public speaking. Administrative experience including facility with Microsoft Office suite, CRM applications, Google suite, calendar management, and project management software desirable. Must be available to work weekends and evenings as required. Physical Demands The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand for long periods of time. The employee is required to work in a public environment with face-to-face contact with the public. Reports to: Director, Young Learners Salary: The salary for this position is $53,000 per annum.
