Director, Industry - Tribeca
$125k - $150kSocket.dev
ABOUT THE ROLE Tribeca is seeking a strategic, entrepreneurial, and deeply networked Director of Industry to take ownership of the industry program at one of the world's preeminent festivals for the business of film and storytelling. This is a newly created, full-time leadership position — reporting directly to the Festival Director — with a clear mandate for growth: to expand Tribeca's role as a destination for discovery, sales, and deal-making, and to build an industry program that matches the ambition, scale, and influence of the Festival itself. Reflecting Tribeca's interdisciplinary identity, this mandate also extends to adjacent creative industries beyond film. The Director of Industry will own the strategic vision, revenue growth, and full lifecycle of industry engagement — from year-round relationship cultivation and business development to delegate experience on the ground during the Festival. Throughout this role, references to sales agents, distributors, buyers, financiers, producers' reps, and similar industry constituencies refer to the business and market side of the Festival — professionals who attend Tribeca for accreditation, deal-making, and market purposes — as distinct from the filmmakers, talent, and creative relationships managed through Programming. In addition to accreditation and credentialing, this role owns Tribeca's existing industry-facing programs, including the Creators' Market and Storytelling Summit, leading their growth plans and working closely with Programming on their curation and execution. They will build and lead a team, set department goals and budget priorities, and serve as Tribeca's primary industry ambassador to this business-side industry community across the global festival and market landscape. This role also acts as a key strategic partner to Programming, Partnerships, Marketing, and Operations, ensuring industry considerations are embedded across the Festival's broader vision. ABOUT YOU You are a seasoned industry leader with a deep and active rolodex of sales agents, distributors (domestic and international), buyers, financiers, and producers' reps, and a track record of converting those relationships into measurable program growth. You understand the businesses and goals of every industry constituency at a festival — and can speak persuasively and credibly with them about a festival's slate and value proposition. You are as comfortable setting multi-year strategy and owning a budget as you are working a market floor or trouble-shooting a delegate's issue in real time. You bring a builder's mindset: proactive, entrepreneurial, and energized by the challenge of scaling a program and a team. Above all, you are a diplomatic, positive, and decisive leader who keeps Tribeca's mission — connecting filmmakers and creators with the people who can bring their work to a wider audience — at the center of everything you do. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Strategy & Vision Own and continually evolve Tribeca's long-term industry strategy, in partnership with the Festival Director, strengthening the Festival's position within the global marketplace ecosystem alongside other major festivals and markets (e.g., Sundance, Berlinale/EFM, Cannes Marché du Film, TIFF, SXSW, and AFM). Set annual goals and KPIs for industry attendance, accreditation/badge revenue, sales activity, and deal-making outcomes, and report progress to senior leadership. Identify, pilot, and scale new industry programs and revenue-generating programs beyond the Festival's existing offerings (e.g., unscripted/nonfiction sales initiatives, emerging media and technology partners, international co-production forums). Develop a strategy to grow Tribeca's relevance and industry presence beyond film, reflecting the Festival's interdisciplinary identity — identifying and cultivating new creative industries such as gaming, podcasts/audio, digital and online creators, and television/episodic. Serve as a strategic advisor to the Festival Director and senior leadership on industry trends, market shifts, and competitive positioning. Year-Round Cultivation & Relationship Management (Business-Side Industry) Build, maintain, and expand relationships with sales agents, distributors, buyers, streamers, financiers, and producers' reps on a year-round basis — not solely in the lead-up to the Festival. Lead personalized outreach and cultivation of past, current, and prospective industry delegates, with a focus on expanding and diversifying the industry base year over year. Represent Tribeca at other major festivals, markets, and industry events throughout the year to cultivate relationships, gather market intelligence, and promote Tribeca's line-up and programs. Serve as the primary, senior point of contact for industry partners, including major sales agencies, studios, and distributors representing films in the Festival. Business Development & Revenue Growth Own the industry growth targets and budget, including accreditation/credential revenue and related industry revenue streams. Design and execute strategies to grow paid industry attendance and market participation, including new packages, tiers, or offerings for buyers and sellers. Track, analyze, and report on industry program performance and revenue to the Festival Director and organizational leadership. Industry Programs: Creators' Market & Storytelling Summit Own strategic and operational oversight of Tribeca's existing industry-facing programs, including the Creators' Market and Storytelling Summit, in addition to accreditation and credentialing. Lead multi-year growth plans for both programs, including targets for participation, attendance, and revenue, and present progress against those plans to the Festival Director and senior leadership. Work closely with Programming on the curatorial direction, session/track design, speaker and participant selection, and overall programming of the Creators' Market and Storytelling Summit. Identify opportunities to expand or evolve these programs — new tracks, formats, or partner categories — in response to industry trends and Festival growth goals. Programming & Slate Support Partner closely with Programming on slate strategy, buyer/distributor previews, premiere status, and rights considerations for films in the Festival. Oversee the creation of market-facing materials, including slate documents, buyer decks, and premiere/availability information. Coordinate slate overview calls and screening schedules between the Programming team and buyers/distributors. Team Leadership & Department Management Build, hire, train, and manage a year-round and seasonal Industry team, including managers and coordinators. Establish department structure, workflows, onboarding, and training to support a growing industry program. Set performance goals for direct reports and manage staff performance, development, and accountability. Own the Industry department's operating budget and staffing plan. Festival Execution Own the end-to-end industry delegate experience at the Festival — registration, credentialing, the Industry Concierge desk, hospitality, and off-boarding. Design and host dedicated networking and social programming for industry delegates (e.g., mixers, receptions, breakfasts, and lounges) to drive cultivation and repeat attendance. Serve as the primary escalation point for issues affecting industry delegates during the Festival. Oversee P&I (press and industry) screening reporting, attendance tracking, and delegate communications during the Festival. Attend Festival events, screenings, and market functions as Tribeca's senior industry representative. Cross-Departmental & Organizational Leadership Serve as a member of Festival leadership, representing Industry in cross-departmental planning and organization-wide strategy. Partner closely with Marketing, Partnerships/Sponsorship, Communications, Box Office, and Operations to align industry initiatives — including sponsorship and brand-partner opportunities tied to the industry program — with broader Festival goals. Act as the primary liaison between the Industry department and internal stakeholders, ensuring timely, accurate information flow in both directions. QUALIFICATIONS 15 years of progressive experience with sales agents, distributors, or buyers in a film festival, market, or industry organization setting, including experience in a senior or leadership capacity. A deep, active rolodex of industry contacts spanning domestic and international distributors, sales agents, producers, and financiers. Demonstrated success building, scaling, or growing an industry, market, or business development program, including revenue accountability. Experience building, managing, and developing a team, and owning a departmental budget. Excellent executive communication and external representation skills; comfort serving as the public face of a program to senior industry stakeholders. In-depth, current knowledge of the global film industry, sales and distribution landscape, and international festival/market ecosystem. Strategic sensibility, with the ability to balance long-term vision with hands‑on, detail-oriented execution. Ability to manage competing priorities and tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Curiosity about and familiarity with adjacent creative industries beyond film, and an interest in identifying where Tribeca can build new relevance and relationships, is a strong plus.
