Job Title Biochemist I/II – Custom Conjugation (San Diego – BioLegend) Job Summary We're looking for a motivated, detail‑focused professional to join BioLegend's production team. In this role, you'll manufacture and deliver custom antibody and reagent products spanning multiple research areas, ensuring exceptional quality standards while supporting process improvements and product development. You'll report directly to the Production Supervisor and play a vital role in our commitment to scientific excellence. You'll execute production activities following established SOPs, resolve technical challenges, implement continuous improvement strategies to boost operational efficiency, and expand your expertise through cross‑functional training across the department. Essential Functions Follow SOPs, work instructions, and batch records for custom order productions with minimum supervision. Clean biosafety cabinet (BSC) to carry out endotoxin tests and conjugation in a sterile environment. Meet important deadlines and due dates related to production orders. Multitask to carry out production efficiently. Conduct optimization of protein and antibody conjugation and purification methods. Troubleshoot difficult customer conjugation. Use lab equipment such as balance, pipette, spectrophotometer, UV detector, agarose gel electrophoresis, and pH meter. Adhere to correct procedures, policies, and health/safety guidelines. Clean and maintain work areas, all lab equipment, and supplies. Additional responsibilities and projects may be assigned based on individual capacity. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, or related fields. 1–3 years of relevant lab experience related to protein chemistry. Preferred Qualifications Previous antibody conjugation skills and experience. Previous ERP/MRP knowledge to execute production orders. Previous work experience in an industry lab environment. ISO13485 knowledge. Ability to perform column chromatography and the use of a spectrophotometer, UV detector, and fraction collector. Experience with AKTA purification is a plus. Work Environment & Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a laboratory environment with occasional data entry on a computer and occasional exposure to a warehouse environment. The employee is frequently required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee also frequently is required to stand, talk, and hear. Compensation The hourly pay for this position will vary by level, as we are open to considering candidates at LevelsI orII depending on experience and qualifications. Each level has a corresponding range that reflects the appropriate scope of responsibilities and expectations. The anticipated hourly range for this role is $20.50–$27.00 per hour. The base pay actually offered to the successful candidate will take into account internal equity, work location, and additional factors, including job‑related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
