CNC Mill and Lathe Operator

The CNC Mill and Lathe Operator is responsible for setting up and operating CNC machines to produce precision parts that meet the dimensional specifications outlined in mechanical engineering drawings.

Shift: 2nd Shift Schedule: Monday through Thursday, 4:30 p.m. to 3:00 a.m.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up, operate, and perform routine maintenance on CNC machines to produce quality parts
• Apply knowledge of machining, tooling specifications, and material characteristics to ensure successful production runs
• Load and unload parts from machines safely and efficiently
• Measure and inspect parts to verify conformance to specifications
• Complete quality control documentation and inspection records accurately
• Verify part compliance using precision measuring instruments and process control techniques, including SPC
• Work efficiently to meet production goals while maintaining quality standards
• Support daily machine utilization and productivity targets, including verifying and recording cycle times
• Start machines promptly at the beginning of the shift and maintain machine operation through breaks and lunch periods as applicable
• Ensure smooth handoff of machines at shift change to support continuous production
• Report labor transactions accurately and on time
• Clock in and out of jobs correctly for production, setups, and both direct and indirect labor activities
• Participate actively in 6S and continuous improvement initiatives
• Notify the Group Leader and/or Manager immediately when production or quality goals cannot be met
• Follow verbal and written instructions, including blueprints, travelers, work instructions, process specifications, sketches, and supervisor direction
• Perform a variety of machining and inspection tasks as assigned

Preferred Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Ability to read and interpret part drawings
• Ability to maintain a clean and organized work area
• Ability to multitask and operate multiple machines
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
• Good manual dexterity and mechanical aptitude
• Ability to perform visual inspection of small parts, including use of a microscope
• Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work with minimal supervision
• Ability to work collaboratively with others in a team environment

Nice to Have

• Intermediate math skills, including geometry and trigonometry
• Experience using precision measuring instruments and SPC techniques
• Prior CNC machining experience in a manufacturing environment
