Job Posting Title: Research Assistant: Remote Sensing, UAV/Satellite Image Processing, and Computer Science ---- Hiring Department: Department of Integrative Biology ---- Position Open To: All Applicants ---- Weekly Scheduled Hours: 15 ---- FLSA Status: Non-Exempt from FLSA ---- Earliest Start Date: Nov 01, 2026 ---- Position Duration: Expected to Continue Until Dec 31, 2026 ---- Location: UT MAIN CAMPUS Job Details: The Dao Lab in the Department of Integrative Biology is seeking Undergraduate Research Assistants/Interns for several projects that develop machine learning and deep learning methods to analyze drone and satellite remote sensing data for various agricultural and environmental applications. Responsibilities include lab and field spectral measurements, drone flight assistance, remote sensing image and spectra processing, machine learning and deep learning model development, statistical analyses, and report writing. The students are required to work between 10-15 hours per week. The students are expected to work independently and under the supervision of Prof. Phuong Dao and graduate students and postdoctoral researchers in the group. The students will be trained to assist with drone flights, follow lab and field sampling protocols, and use advanced sensors and equipment in Dao’s research group. More details about our group’s research can be found at Job Responsibilities Develop machine learning and deep learning pipelines to process drone and satellite imagery. Analyze drone and satellite imagery for agricultural and environmental applications. Help with lab spectra measurements, field data collection, and drone flights. Qualifications Current UT student in undergraduate programs related to Computer Science, Data Science, Remote Sensing, Geospatial Science, Geography, Geosciences, and has completed the first year of an undergraduate program. Desired Skills The student should have strong machine learning, deep learning, computer vision, large language models, image processing, and data science skills and be well-versed in Python or similar programming languages. Experience in databases and smartphone apps and web development is an advantage.
