Job Details Location: Van Nuys II (159) - Van Nuys, CA 91405 Position Type: Regular Full-Time Job Shift: Day (Mon – Fri; 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.) Job Category: Classified Compensation $20.60 per hour – $30.90 per hour (depending on education) How You Will Make an Impact The Tutor will provide academic support in the form of one‑on‑one or small group tutoring, helping students comprehend subject material to successfully complete their courses. The position also supports student engagement and retention through related school activities. Responsibilities Tutor students in all subject areas using online, virtual, one‑on‑one, and small group platforms based on class and text notes. Tutor students in skills such as literacy, technology, and access to online or virtual courses. Provide basic technical support for online course setup and access. Determine important concepts from student notes and discussions that require teaching or reteaching. Evaluate student binders, calendars, class notes, book notes, and other materials. Establish and maintain control in learning environments and administer discipline per board policies and site rules. Conduct mini‑lessons in writing across all subject areas, study skills, and course preparation. Conduct brainstorming and clustering sessions with students as needed. Familiarize with educational materials and resources for teachers and students. Facilitate peer critique groups in subject area labs as needed. Contact teachers regarding course outlines and assignment schedules for intervention sessions. Communicate with students and parents via company technologies for outreach and retention. Communicate frequently and honestly with teachers regarding student progress and concerns. Determine focus areas for tutorial sessions based on teacher directions and student work evaluation. Maintain professional relationships with administrators, teachers, colleagues, students, parents, and community members. Use Socratic questioning and writing techniques as needed. Review student course schedules for accuracy and support. Assist in testing and assessments periodically. Support the instructional program in maintaining discipline and encouraging appropriate student behavior. Take precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Keep informed of and comply with district and school regulations and policies. Maintain prompt and regular attendance for each assignment. Attend required tutoring training and adhere to attendance policies. Complete administrative duties, responsibilities, and activities as assigned or changed. Qualifications Respect learners as persons of worth. Willingness to foster student self‑esteem and skill growth. Demonstrated patience, encouragement, and understanding when working with students. Strong listening skills and ability to build mutually respectful relationships. Capable of working independently with minimal direction. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent analytical and organizational skills. Flexibility to meet the needs of students and the school. Knowledgeable in standard office computer programs and various educational programs. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of at least two years of college (48 units), an associate degree (or higher) from an accredited state college, or a pass of a state or local academic assessment such as the California Basic Education Skills Test. Knowledge of math and reading teaching techniques preferred. Bilingual speaking skills desired. Demonstrated interest in a teaching career desired. Proficiency in basic computer literacy and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Travel Ability to travel in performance of job duties is required. Physical Requirements High workflow management and project coordination demands. Finger dexterity: use primarily fingers for typing and handling small objects. Talking: convey detailed instructions or ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly. Average hearing and visual abilities required for normal conversations and document inspection. Physical strength: sedentary work with occasional exertion up to 10 lbs. Frequent multitasking and task priority changes.
