Education, Innovation, and Support Program Coordinator I
The education, innovation, and support program coordinator I will provide leadership and professional services to accomplish the education, innovation, and support departmental objectives. This position works closely with 1890 regional directors and community partners to effectively execute state-wide college readiness initiatives and support the holistic student development initiatives of SC State 1890 Research and Extension.
Responsibilities include developing, executing and managing college readiness programs; supervising and providing direction to EIS student assistants; designing and implementing training for professional, academic, student, and temporary staff; overseeing the collection, analysis, and evaluation of student and program data to document progress toward established goals and objectives; developing partnerships/networks with high schools, higher education institutions, and community organizations; assisting in the development of EIS budget and ensuring that expenditures are processed appropriately; assisting in the recruitment, retention, and management of the Agriculture Innovation Scholarship Program; planning holistic student development activities for Ag scholars, USDA scholars, student assistants, and research assistants; making recommendations to the state program leader based upon this analysis. Ensures accurate and up-to-date data entry for all academic programs; serving on department, campus, and external committees, workgroups, and coordinating bodies; serving as consultant/expert/resource to K-14 institutions and community organizations regarding college access and college-going culture.
Required skills/abilities include demonstrated knowledge managing and monitoring educational programs; knowledge of the history, philosophy and objectives of the 1890 Land-Grant System; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with diverse populations; ability to recruit, train and manage staff as well as volunteers; expertise in understanding and following project plans, including the coordination of multiple resources and activities; ability to exchange information with individuals and collaborate and colleagues within the college as well as presentation skills; possess excellent organizational and decision-making skills; proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 and current social media trends.
Education and experience: The individual should possess a Master's in education, social sciences, family and consumer sciences, sociology, psychology or related area with at least five (5) years of satisfactory professional job-related experience to include youth development areas. A master's degree is required.
This position will directly supervise EIS student assistants.
Work environment: The typical work week is 8:30 am-5:00 pm in a traditional office setting. In addition, there are after hour responsibilities on the weekdays and weekends which may include facilitating workshops, conducting campus tours, and managing EIS related events. There are some outdoor responsibilities when it comes to programming and helping work university events.
Physical requirements: This position requires light physical activity and movement.
Travel requirements: Some evening and weekend work, as well as overnight in state and out of state travel is required. The individual will travel extensively throughout the state to facilitate workshops and provide support to regional staff and volunteers.
Application requirements/special instructions: This position is federally funded by the Farm Bill (Agriculture Improvement Act) Section 1444, Agricultural Extension Activities at 1890 Land-Grant Institutions / Section 1445, Agricultural Research Activities at 1890 Land Grant Institutions. The individual will be housed in the administrative office located in Orangeburg, SC. The individual must have the ability to perform duties on own initiative while receiving minimal supervision; must be able to use good judgment in making decisions; exhibit a good working relationship with people, and be highly dependable in planning, implementing, and reporting activities; must be able to relate to youth and college student population and rural/urban citizens. A valid driver's license is required.
