Physician - Opioid Treatment Program Medical Director

Summary This physician position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan reimbursement program. Candidates must meet specific Eligibility requirements and submit a VHA EDRP application within four months of appointment. The award amount and eligibility period are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services office. The role offers a competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases, 50‑55 days of paid time off, a traditional federal pension, federal 401(k) with up to 5% contributions, comprehensive insurance benefits, liability protection, and no employment contract restrictions. Duties Serve as the team leader for a multidisciplinary opioid treatment program. Oversee all medical and behavioral health services provided by the team to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws. Teach and supervise trainees rotating on the service. Report to the Chief, Addiction Programs Section. Maintain board certification or eligibility in Addiction Psychiatry (ABPN) or Addiction Medicine (ABPM). Requirements U.S. citizenship (non‑citizens only if no qualified citizens are available). Probable participation in a urinalysis test for illegal drug use; refusal results in denial of employment. Selective Service registration required for males born after 12/31/1959. Proficiency in written and spoken English. Subject to background/security investigation. Complete an online onboarding process and provide acceptable identification documents; drivers licenses or state‑issued ID cards not REAL‑ID compliant may not be accepted after 7 May 2025. Pass a pre‑employment physical examination. Participate in the seasonal influenza vaccination program. May be required to serve a probationary period. Submit all application requirements detailed in the announcement. Qualifications United States citizenship. Doctor of Medicine or equivalent allopathic or osteopathic degree from an approved institution. Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S. or D.C. Completed residency training approved by the VA, meeting one of the following: ACGME or AOA accredited residency program. One year of post‑medical‑school training followed by two years of independent practice under a full license. Non‑U.S. residency program followed by at least three years of verified independent practice in the U.S. Special exceptions for physician resident providers (PRPs) and rare exceptions approved by the Facility Director. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Preferred: Board Certified or Board Eligible Psychiatrist for Addiction Psychiatry (ABPN) or Addiction Medicine (ABPM). Education Medical school accredited by LCME in the year of graduation. Osteopathic medical school approved by COCA in the year of graduation. Foreign medical graduates meeting ECFMG eligibility for the year of graduation.
