Job Title: Med Surg/IMC/Tele RN Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 1900 to 0730, every other weekend and holiday Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience License: Required Certifications: BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Good communication skills Good teamwork Strong work ethic Majority of cardiac experience 1 year of Tele, IMC/Stepdown RN experience Drip experience Willingness to float if necessary Description: The department consists of a 28-bed unit with a patient care ratio of 1:5 during the day and evening shifts, and an average of 1:6 to 1:7 during night shifts. Up to 75% of patients are cardiac-related, including conditions such as pre/post catheterizations, chest pain, and NSTEMIs. General diagnoses also include CHF, COPD, pneumonia, diabetes, dialysis, altered mental status, nephrology, hematology, and wound care. Experience with titratable drips such as insulin, heparin, nitroglycerin, diltiazem, and lasix is essential. Nurses are responsible for monitoring telemetry strips independently. There are telemetry technicians available for continuous monitoring of patients, but nurses should verify rhythms using monitors available on the unit. Charge nurses will have patient assignments but will typically not have a full assignment to maintain a support role for staff. Certified nurse aides support the unit with average ratios of 1:9 during day and evening shifts, and 1:14 during night shifts if fully staffed. The unit utilizes equipment such as continuous CPAP and BiPAP, high-flow oxygen, nebulizers, and chest physiotherapy, but does not have ventilators. Scheduling includes 12-hour shifts with no self-scheduling; accommodating block scheduling is attempted but not guaranteed. Every other weekend and holiday work is required, and there is no call or standby requirement for staff. Staff may be asked to float to other medical/surgical floors as needed, and fairness in floating is a priority. A clean and professional appearance is expected in terms of scrub color and overall attire. All staff members must clock in and out while working.
