Crew Leader – Trench Crew

Job Type: Direct Hire
Locations: Smithfield, VA and Hampton, VA

Job Overview

We are hiring an experienced Crew Leader – Trench Crew to support underground utility construction projects. The Crew Leader will assist the Foreman and lead a 3-person excavation crew while ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to project specifications.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate a 3-person excavation crew.
• Operate and safely transport a JD35 mini excavator .
• Assist with excavation, trenching, cable pulling, restoration, and other field activities.
• Assist the Foreman with daily project activities and crew productivity.
• Complete accurate daily field reports.
• Maintain productivity during delays or changes in field conditions.
• Monitor quality and ensure installations meet customer specifications and industry standards.
• Ensure safety procedures are followed at all times.
• Read and work from blueprints, plans, and specifications.

Requirements

• Experience leading a 3-person construction or utility crew.
• Proficiency operating and transporting a mini excavator, preferably John Deere JD35 .
• Underground utility or excavation experience.
• Ability to read blueprints and project specifications.
• Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL-A) .
• Ability to meet company driver qualifications.
• Strong communication, leadership, and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work outdoors and perform physical field work.
