Deputy Court Clerk

Under general supervision provides essential front?line customer service for City of Humble Municipal Court by performing routine clerical and accounting duties. Duties include processing citations, collecting fees and fines, scheduling court dates, trials or hearings and works with the Municipal Court Judge to conduct Court business.

Review and process all incoming citations, warnings, complaints, and related documents for completeness and accuracy; collect fees and fines, and schedule court dates, trials, and hearings; prepare court dockets, jury charges, subpoenas, and a variety of correspondence for defendants and/or attorneys.

Collaborate with the Municipal Court Judge in the courtroom and conduct court proceedings in a professional and respectful manner.

Perform efficiently under time constraints and high-pressure conditions, including managing heavy workloads, frequent interruptions, high phone volume, and challenging interactions, while maintaining accuracy, professionalism, and meeting deadlines.

Maintain files and correspondence for the court.

Use Municipal Court software and programs, public records retention software and programs, and remain current on upgrades or changes.

Provides assistance and information to the public.

Any other duties as assigned.

Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Skilled at multitasking and maintaining composure in high-pressure or demanding situations.

Knowledgeable in public records retention requirements, including related software and Municipal Court systems.

Knowledge of court operations and municipal laws.

Possess strong organizational, computer and basic accounting skills.

High School diploma or GED.

Minimum of two (2) years' experience in customer service and cash receipts.

Experience using MS office applications.

Bilingual proficiency preferred.

Valid Driver's License.

Experience with Municipal Court software and public records retention software and programs.

Must be able to pass physical, drug screen and background check (including CJIS clearance).

No. This is not a position that is essential to the provision of emergency services during and/or following a disaster.

This job is performed primarily in a controlled office environment and may experience periods of working under tight schedules and deadlines, multiple distractions, heavy phone volume and difficult situations with the public.
