Job Summary
The Security Operations and Event Monitoring Center (SOEMC) is an industry leading operations center that plays a vital role in keeping AEP safe and compliant. An Event Monitoring Center Rep will answer alarms and phone calls to help protect AEP assets, assist internal customers, and be the face of AEP Security. The SOEMC monitors alarms throughout AEP’s footprint at a variety of facilities, answers the corporate Security hotline, and helps maintain NERC CIP compliance. This Event Monitoring Center Rep will provide training and oversight to other SOEMC members and terminals to ensure AEP Security standards are being met. Functions without direct supervision; writes and maintains clearly defined procedures, responds to higher level internal customer security needs and assists with automating alarms using monitoring software. Handles advanced level problems and tracks solution options based on criticality.Job Description
What You'll Do
Essential Job Functions & Tasks
Shift Leadership & Operations
Lead assigned Event Monitoring Center (SOEMC) shifts and ensure appropriate staffing levels are maintained at all times.
Provide day-to-day oversight of Event Monitoring Center Operators and ensure operational standards, processes, and procedures are consistently followed.
Monitor operator performance through alarm and call audits and provide coaching, guidance, and performance feedback as needed.
Serve as a resource for operators by assisting with escalated issues, troubleshooting, and operational support.
Support scheduling flexibility by working rotating shifts and assisting with coverage when operational needs require.
Training & Employee Development
Train, mentor, and onboard new Event Monitoring Center Operators.
Ensure operators are proficient in all desk functions, systems, procedures, and monitoring responsibilities.
Assist with the development and delivery of training programs and may serve as a lead instructor for the SOEMC Training Academy.
Act as a backup to the SOEMC Trainer and SOEMC Supervisor when needed.
Security Systems & Technical Support
Troubleshoot advanced physical security, access control, alarm monitoring, and surveillance system issues.
Assist with programming, procedures, sensors, and troubleshooting activities within the SOEMC Physical Security Information Management (PSIM) platform.
Provide technical support and guidance to operators and field technicians.
Monitor alarm activity, identify trends, document findings, and recommend corrective actions to improve system performance and reliability.
Participate in reviews, testing, and assessments of security systems to ensure optimal performance and compliance.
Compliance & Security Governance
Support AEP's physical security program by helping maintain compliance with North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) standards and other applicable regulations.
Partner with Physical Security leadership to monitor and document compliance activities and reduce risk to AEP assets and critical infrastructure.
Conduct internal reviews, spot checks, assessments, and training activities to ensure adherence to policies, procedures, and security standards.
Review security system designs, operations, and configurations to verify compliance with AEP requirements and best practices.
Monitoring & Incident Response
Respond to incoming alarms utilizing AEP's monitoring systems and established procedures.
Answer security hotline calls and assist internal customers with security-related concerns and requests.
Support access control and badge-related inquiries.
Create, document, and support incident reporting activities.
Analyze and resolve advanced security-related issues using established procedures and troubleshooting methods.
Project & Program Support
Assist with advanced capital and O&M security projects.
Support installation, maintenance, configuration management, documentation, and integrity reviews of physical security systems and infrastructure.
Provide advanced knowledge and expertise related to physical security systems, monitoring technologies, and operational processes.
Additional Requirements
Ability to work rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays as required.
Expected to work a modified schedule, typically including two weekend days with flexibility during the week.
Ability to maintain minimum staffing requirements and support operational coverage needs.
Strong data entry and computer skills.
Ability to type a minimum of 40 words per minute (WPM) .
Strong attention to detail, communication, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, mission-critical monitoring environment.
