Job Title: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Labor and Delivery Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 hours (19:00 - 07:30) Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience License: Active Registered Nurse Licensure Certifications: - BLS (AHA) - ACLS - NRP - AWHONN Intermediate Must-Have: - Epic experience Description: High Risk Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse accountable for the assessment, coordination, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care. Includes direct patient care, patient/family education, and transitions of care in an acute patient setting. Delivers holistic and individualized care to all patients in an assigned area. Develops, implements, and coordinates a plan of care that incorporates psychological, sociocultural, spiritual, economic, and lifestyle factors. Fosters and maintains collaborative relationships between patients, their family/support group, physicians, and other healthcare providers through timely and effective communications. Required skills include: - Administration of blood and blood products - Amnioinfusion - Antepartum care - Anticoagulation therapy - Antihypertensives - Antiseizure medication - APGAR scores - Assistance with high-risk delivery - Assistance with sterile speculum exam - Assistance with vaginal delivery - Baby-friendly protocols - Breastfeeding support/lactation support - Cesarean section - Circulating for C-section - Collecting cord samples - Couplet care - Drawing venous blood - Epidural anesthesia - Foley catheter insertion/management - Forceps/vacuum extraction - Fundus/lochia/perineum care - General anesthesia - Hemorrhage/shock management - High-risk antepartum care - Infant identification - Insulin drips - Interpreting dysrhythmias - Isolation precautions/PPE - IV conscious sedation - Labor and delivery care - Magnesium sulfate therapy - Newborn assessment - Newborn hypoglycemia management - Nitrous oxide use - Non-stress tests - Oxytocin challenge tests - Pain assessment and management - Pitocin administration - Postpartum hemorrhage care - Pregnancy-induced hypertension management - Prostaglandins administration - Thermoregulation in newborns - Recognition and treatment of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns - Recovery after C-section - Reflex checks/edema assessment/clonus checks - Scrubbing for C-section - Starting and maintaining IVs - Sterile vaginal exams - Tubal ligation - Use of external fetal heart monitoring - Use of internal fetal monitoring - Vaccine administration - Vaginal delivery - Wound assessment/care Patient demographics include adults. The daily census involves 250-300 deliveries per month. The unit comprises 26 rooms and 20 beds. Interdisciplinary support includes various health services. Patient diagnoses and special procedures are diverse. Various skills and experiences in specific high-risk scenarios are required. Collaboration and communication with healthcare team members are essential for patient care success.
