We are looking for a Principal Human-AI Experience Architect to shape how engineers and construction professionals collaborate with AI across Hilti's software portfolio. Based in the Technology Office, you will define the experience architecture, reusable patterns, and technical standards that turn AI from an isolated feature into a trusted participant in complete professional workflows. Your scope will include PROFIS Engineering and PROFIS MSE, Hilti mobile applications, and shared capabilities delivered through the Technology Services Platform. This is a principal-level individual-contributor role for someone who combines human-centered systems thinking with technical depth. You will work across UX, product, software engineering, architecture, cybersecurity, and responsible AI to redesign complex workflows-not simply add chat interfaces to existing products. You will help users understand AI-generated recommendations, inspect evidence and assumptions, remain in control of important decisions, and move seamlessly between desktop, web, and mobile experiences. What You'll do Define how users and AI agents work together across key workflows, including when AI aids, makes recommendations, requests approval, supervised execution, or acts autonomously within defined boundaries. Deliver interaction frameworks, end-to-end flows, and decision criteria that product teams can apply consistently. Design and maintain reusable UX patterns for agentic workflows, including how users communicate their goals, provide context, review an AI-generated plan, monitor progress, inspect supporting evidence, approve consequential actions, correct or override results, and recover from errors. Validate the patterns through prototyping and usability testing. Research complex engineering and construction workflows to identify where AI can reduce effort, improve decision quality, or introduce unacceptable risk. Redesign selected workflows as end-to-end journeys, task flows, wireframes, and tested prototypes across desktop, web, and mobile products. Design and validate AI-assisted mobile workflows for job sites, using relevant device and situational context such as camera input, task state, location, and connectivity. Define confirmation steps, offline behavior, synchronization, error handling, and recovery paths, so users remain in control. Define reusable human-AI experience capabilities across the product portfolio, including shared UI components, interaction behaviors, accessibility and localization requirements, feedback and telemetry needs, and usage guidance. Partner with platform and software architects to translate these requirements into platform capabilities and integration of contracts. Build or direct functional prototypes using realistic AI responses, data, and failure conditions. Test them to evaluate usability, comprehension, appropriate trust, perceived control, and task completion, and partner with engineering to validate technical feasibility, latency, reliability, and implementation effort. Define and test user-facing standards for communicating AI-generated content, source of evidence, assumptions, confidence or uncertainty, and required human review. Design approval, override, feedback, and audit interactions in partnership with responsible AI, cybersecurity, legal, and engineering teams. Create and maintain a human-AI experience playbook containing design principles, validated interaction patterns, reference flows, prototype examples, and implementation guidance. Lead design reviews and coach product teams as they apply these standards across the portfolio. What You'll Bring This position is not eligible for employer-sponsored work authorization or visa sponsorship (including initial, transfer, or extension), and candidates must be authorized to work in the United States at the time of application and remain authorized for the duration of employment without the need for sponsorship. Extensive experience in UX engineering, experience architecture, human-computer interaction, frontend or platform architecture, conversational AI, or a related field. Demonstrated success designing and prototyping AI-enabled experiences that connect user needs with production technology. Strong knowledge of modern frontend architecture, design systems, APIs, cloud platforms, telemetry, accessibility, and software delivery. Working knowledge of agentic AI, including tool use, orchestration, context and memory, autonomy boundaries, evaluation, and human-in-the-loop controls. Ability to turn ambiguous strategic questions into clear principles, prototypes, reference patterns, and implementation guidance. Strong communication and influencing skills across product, design, engineering, architecture, security, and business stakeholders. Bachelor's degree in computer science, human-computer interaction, design technology, software engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience. Experience with engineering software, CAD/BIM, construction technology, industrial software, enterprise AI agents, or other safety-relevant professional workflows is highly valued. More important than an exact previous title is evidence that you have simplified complex work, built technically credible prototypes, created reusable capabilities, and helped multiple teams adopt them.
