This generator technician opening is an in shop technician role providing repair and routine maintenance for field equipment used in the oil, gas and construction industries. Technicians typically average 50 to 60 hours a week with steady overtime opportunities though not guaranteed. Shop technicians report directly to the shop and support repairs, rebuilds, and inspections on units returning from the field. The role requires confidence across mechanical and electrical systems and the ability to take ownership of uptime on natural gas power generation equipment.
Work centers on natural gas generators ranging from 5.7 to 21.9 liters. You will perform oil changes, spark plug changes, filter replacements, overhead valve adjustments, battery checks, radiator washing, and load bank testing. You will troubleshoot and repair fuel systems, cooling systems, air injection systems, turbos, manifolds, generator control panels, and 480 volt output issues including diodes and automatic voltage regulators. Shop technicians will complete troubleshooting, teardown, rebuilds, and full system maintenance in a controlled environment.
Veterans with experience in generators, power generation, utilities, industrial maintenance, engine repair, or shipboard mechanical and electrical systems will recognize the pace and expectations of this work. The role demands independent judgment, systematic troubleshooting, precise execution, and the ability to keep critical equipment running without oversight. Those who take pride in repairs done correctly the first time and who communicate directly and professionally will transition smoothly. Level 2 through Level 4 generator mechanics with balanced electrical and mechanical skill sets align especially well.
