Job Title: Production Operator – Night Shift

Job Description

This role offers the opportunity to work as a Production Operator on the night shift, rotating between various machines and positions on the plant floor. You ensure continuous, safe, and efficient operation of manual production machinery by loading materials, monitoring equipment, and handling finished product. You spend most of your shift on your feet in a designated area, supporting smooth production flow and maintaining consistent output.

Responsibilities

• Rotate between different machinery and roles on the plant floor during the night shift to support ongoing production.
• Monitor manual production machines to ensure they run smoothly and address basic issues to prevent downtime.
• Load and unload fiberglass materials safely and efficiently according to operating procedures.
• Operate winding and unwinding stations, including working at the dip station, to process materials correctly.
• Stack finished rolls on the hilo (forklift or material handling equipment) in an organized and safe manner.
• Apply wrap to rolls to prepare products for storage or shipment and maintain product integrity.
• Follow all safety guidelines and use proper techniques when handling materials and operating equipment.
• Maintain a clean and orderly work area to reduce dust and debris and support a safe working environment.
• Remain on your feet throughout the shift in the assigned area, maintaining focus and productivity.
• Communicate with team members and supervisors about machine performance, material needs, and any issues that arise during the shift.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 1 year of experience working in a manufacturing floor role or machine operating role.
• Hands-on experience operating manual machinery in a production environment (not primarily assembly work).
• Consistent work history with no frequent job changes, including at least 2 years of tenure in each prior role.
• Ability to stand and remain on your feet for the entire shift.
• Comfort working in the same area for extended periods of time.
• Experience with production, machine operation, general labor, assembly, packaging, and loading tasks.
• Ability to follow safety procedures and operating instructions accurately.
• Strong reliability and commitment to showing up consistently for night shift work.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working with fiberglass or similar industrial materials.
• In operating or working around winding, unwinding, and dip stations.
• Familiarity with using a hilo or other material handling equipment to stack and move rolls.
• Ability to work effectively in environments with temperature fluctuations and occasional dust.
• Comfort working with products that may involve mild chemical or paint-like smells.
• Strong attention to detail when wrapping and preparing finished rolls for storage or shipment.

Work Environment

The work takes place on a manufacturing plant floor that is cleaner than most facilities, while still maintaining the characteristics of an industrial setting. There is a mild chemical smell, similar to paint, due to the nature of the production process. Conditions can be very hot in the summer and cold in the winter, and the environment may become dusty during the shift. You spend most of your time on your feet in a designated area, working with manual machinery, fiberglass materials, winding and unwinding stations, dip stations, and material handling equipment such as a hilo. Dress comfortably and appropriately for an industrial environment with temperature changes and dust, and be prepared to follow all safety and protective equipment guidelines provided on-site.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Detroit, MI.

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $17.00/hr.
