Outpatient Registered Nurse - Surgery Clinic - University Hospital at University of New Mexico - Hospitals Job Info Company: University of New Mexico - Hospitals Position: Outpatient Registered Nurse - Surgery Clinic - University Hospital Work Location: Los Lunas Country: US Responsibilities Work within the nursing process to provide direct nursing care to assigned patients, including neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric age groups. Deliver safe direct care to an assigned group of patients. Work within hospital, nursing division, and departmental policies. Collaborate with the healthcare team to implement and document individualized care plans, including age‑specific considerations, discharge planning, and patient/family teaching. Assume precepting and evaluation responsibilities of new personnel upon completion of preceptor training. Assist with or institute emergency measures for sudden adverse developments in patients. Ensure patient medical records contain necessary information. Answer telephones and triage calls per departmental policy; document and communicate clinical findings. Follow patient safety‑related policies, procedures, and protocols; proactively seek opportunities to improve patient safety. Identify and correct environmental conditions that may pose undue risk to patients. Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors, or near misses promptly. Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting any confusion or concerns. Schedule: 3×12‑hour shifts (day, evening, night) with a self‑scheduling program for workdays and vacation. Shift differentials: 17% weekday nights, 26% weekend nights, 15% weekend day shift. Qualifications Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of New Mexico or accepted reciprocal agreement. CPR certification for healthcare/BLS providers or professional rescuers; must be obtained within 30 calendar days of start date. Tuberculosis testing completed upon hire (and as required). Bachelor’s degree in nursing (B.S.N.) or equivalent. Bilingual in English/Spanish or one of: Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo. Experience and training in perioperative nursing; a 6‑month training program for nurses with no OR experience is provided. Ability to work under high‑pressure, fluid environments (e.g., level‑1 trauma OR). Knowledge of and commitment to complying with clinical safety, environmental, and infection control protocols.
