Stepdown RNUnit notes: RN's - pass/fail exam on Friday during orientation. Open book exam on skills learned - they are given all necessary resources to pass. Must receive a 90% to pass or they will be terminated. Radius rule: 50 miles and candidates may not be full time, part time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity. Driver's license required at submittal and will be used to determine if candidate is outside 50 miles. Fingernail policy: artificial nails are prohibited in all departments providing patient care - refusal to remove nails will lead to termination of contract. Department: Stepdown RN Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Prescreen+auto offer Number of beds: 22 Nurse:patient ratios: 1:04 Common diagnoses/types of patients: heart failure, afib, respiratory distress, stroke Are RNs required to titrate drips? Yes Common titratable &/or set rate drips: Cardizem, amiodarone, nitro Is there a charge nurse on each shift? Does the charge nurse take an assignment? Yes - does take a full patient assignment Are there nurse aids/patient care techs on this unit? Ratios? Duties? Yes - 1:10 RT equipment (vents, CPAP, BiPap, high flow, etc.) Are RNs required to do anything with these besides troubleshoot? CPAP Are there tele/monitor techs on this unit? Are RNs required to read their own strips? What brand are the tele monitors? RNs must read and interpret strips Shifts & scheduling (do you allow self-scheduling? Block scheduling?) 0630-1900, 1830-0700 // cyclic scheduling Weekend requirements: every other Holiday requirements: 1 major, 1 minor Floating requirements: will float to ICU if appropriate and has experience How many shifts of unit/department specific orientation? 1 - 12 hour shift in the department Additional notes: fast paced unit with many admits and discharges.
