$100,000 - $125,000 Description: The Director of Finance provides senior strategic oversight and long-term financial foresight for all finance, accounting, and reporting activities, ensuring the fiscal integrity, organizational growth, and long-term sustainability of Mujeres Latinas en Acción. Managing a $6M annual budget funded by a diverse portfolio of government grants and private foundations, this leader serves as a visionary strategist and a vital bridge between financial data and mission-drivenprogram operations. Reporting to the CEO and collaborating with a CFO Consultant, the Director of Finance ensures exemplary annual audits, translates complex financial metrics into actionable strategy, and empowers program leaders through financial education and highly organized, transparent reporting. Reports to: President and CEO FSLA Status: Exempt Key Responsibilities: Long-Range Modeling: Develop predictive financial models, multi-year cash flow forecasts, and scenario plans to anticipate market changes, funding shifts, and growth opportunities. Budgeting & Variance: Lead the annual budgeting process in partnership with leadership, providing sophisticated monthly variance analysis, predictive risk assessments,and corrective action plans. Asset & Capital Management: Manage organizational cash flow forecasting and strategically track the performance of invested assets according to policy guidelines to maximize long-term financial health. Program Partnership: Collaborate closely with Program Directors to assess the financial efficacy of services, designing forward-looking systems that support seamless, scalable program delivery. Systems & Process Optimization: Maintain all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring strict compliance with GAAP standards and regulatory requirements, while continually evaluating infrastructure for maximum efficiency. Internal Controls: Establish, monitor, and refine robust, highly organized internal controls for revenue receipts, program expenditures, and overall budget integrity. Audit Coordination: Serve as the primary point of contact for all annual audit activities and tax filings, ensuring flawless compliance. Grant Accounting: Oversee complex grant accounting for government, corporate, and private foundation funding, ensuring expenditures align seamlessly with funder requirements and strict reporting deadlines. Board & Executive Reporting: Synthesize, analyze, and present accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements to the President and CEO, leadership teams, and the Board Finance Committee, translating complex data into clear, strategic narratives. Staff Management & Development: Supervise, mentor, and develop the finance team by clarifying roles, organizing workflows, providing targeted training, and maximizing individual strengths. Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Promote a positive, supportive work environment and strengthen internal communications across all departments, making financial literacy accessible to non-finance staff. Qualifications & Skills: Experience: 7–15 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, with a proven track record moving from technical accounting/audit into strategic, executive-level financial reporting and planning. Non-Profit Expertise: Deep expertise managing a complex, multi-program non-profit environment; comprehensive knowledge of private foundation reporting and Illinois government grant compliance is highly preferred. Strategic Vision: Exceptional analytical skill and strategic foresight; a proven ability to interpret complex data to anticipate organizational needs and drive institutional decisionmaking. Organization & Execution: Superior organizational and project management skills, with a demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities, streamline complex workflows, and oversee software implementations. Communication Excellence: Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills. Must possess the ability to articulate financial complexities clearly and persuasively to board members, staff, and external funders. Technical Proficiency: Advanced knowledge of accounting software (Fund-EZ preferred) and Microsoft Office applications. Mission Alignment: Personal commitment to the mission of MLEA and the empowerment of the Latina community. Education & Certifications: Required: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance. Preferred: CPA and/or MBA Physical Requirements & Working Conditions: This position has a hybrid work schedule which includes weekly in office presence. Standard office environment. Must be able to occasionally lift items weighing up to 20 lbs. Travel to other Mujeres office locations. Work evenings and weekends as needed. Sick Leave: Accrual of 5.83 hours per month for all full-time and part-time employees. Personal Days: 5 paid personal days per year (accrued monthly). Winter Wellness Days: 3 additional paid days between December and March. Summer Hours: Early dismissal (1:00 p.m.) on alternating Fridays from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
