Hiring Process Take the Law Enforcement‑Frontline Exam with the National Testing Network and choose to submit the scores to New Albany. Complete the National Testing Network’s personal history questionnaire. Obtain a passing score. Candidates who pass are contacted via the e‑mail address provided to the National Testing Network. Receive an application for employment with the City of New Albany and a Personal History Questionnaire to complete. Successfully pass the physical test and attend a short interview. Undergo a thorough background investigation. Complete an Oral Board interview with a panel of interviewers and, if recommended, a final interview with the New Albany City Manager and Chief of Police. If successful, receive a conditional offer of employment. Complete a drug screening, medical exam, psychological evaluation, and lie‑detector examination. Receive a final offer of employment. Benefits Police Officer recruits start at $34.05 per hour ($70,828.37 annually). Upon graduation from the police academy, employees receive an immediate step increase with annual step increases thereafter for the first five years of employment. Employees receive employer‑paid vision, dental, short‑term disability, and life insurance and have access to a generous health insurance plan. Duties Police Officers take proper enforcement action as necessary to maintain the order, safety, and general welfare of the city. They provide a highly visible, professional presence while conducting patrol activities, maintaining safety, and assisting citizens in a wide range of emergency and non‑emergency situations. Qualifications U.S. citizen and eligible to hold an Ohio Peace Officer Training Certificate. At least 21 years of age. Bachelor’s degree and/or active duty military service with honorable discharge is preferred. Valid Ohio driver’s license and ability to maintain insurability under the city’s vehicle insurance policy. Must pass a background check according to the city’s established criteria and any restrictions imposed by state law. Background investigation includes, but is not limited to, credit, criminal history, employment and personal reference checks, and a home interview. After a conditional offer is extended, candidates will be subject to a lie detector examination, medical evaluation, drug screen, and psychological evaluation to determine fitness for duty.
