Certified Medical Assistant - GI

Job Summary We are seeking a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) for the Duke GI Clinic of Durham, Durham, NC. The CMA will provide direct and indirect patient care as an integral member of the healthcare team. Location Duke GI Clinic of Durham – 249 N Carolina, Durham, NC 27513 Responsibilities Take medical histories, record vital signs, explain treatment procedures, and prepare patients for examinations and procedures. Assist medical and nursing staff during examinations and procedures, collect and prepare laboratory specimens, perform basic laboratory tests in the clinic/office, take electrocardiograms, remove sutures/staples, and change sterile and non‑sterile dressings. Dispense contaminated supplies, process instruments, perform high‑level disinfection and sterilization of medical instruments, telephone prescriptions to a pharmacy, prepare and administer medications as directed by a physician, and authorize drug refills as directed. Greet patients, answer telephones, schedule appointments, arrange hospital admissions and laboratory services, update and file patient medical records, complete insurance forms, handle billing and collections, and order clinical and clerical supplies and forms. Participate as a liaison for clinic activities such as Joint Commission and falls committees. Eligibility Requirements Graduation from a medical assistant program accredited by CAAHEP or ABHES (strongly preferred). High school diploma or GED (required). Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA‑CCMA, NCMA or ARMA (required). BLS certification (required). Phlebotomy experience preferred. Level I – No experience required; Level II – 1 year of clinical experience as a CMA (required). Hours Day shifts Monday–Friday.
