LPN Psychiatric

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at Montana State Hospital provides skilled nursing care, assessments, planning, interventions, and evaluations for adult patients within a psychiatric and therapeutic environment. The role involves supervising and accounting for patients, delivering care as directed by medical and nursing providers, and utilizing therapeutic communication and de-escalation techniques. The LPN will work primarily with individuals with developmental, behavioral, or psychiatric disorders, ensuring patient rights and safety are maintained. Responsibilities:

• Provide patient assessments and document findings accurately.
• Implement appropriate nursing care interventions as directed.
• Observe, report, and document patients' physical, emotional, and behavioral status.
• Maintain and protect patient rights and confidentiality.
• Use therapeutic communication and de-escalation techniques effectively.
• Supervise and account for patients during shifts.
• Collaborate with medical and nursing staff to deliver comprehensive care.
• Utilize technology related to patient care information systems proficiently.
• Participate in maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment for patients.

• Graduation from an accredited school of practical nursing.
• Current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the State of Montana or compact license.
• Minimum of 2 years of relevant nursing experience.
• Ability to perform patient assessments and document accurately.
• Knowledge of psychopharmacology and psychiatric nursing care.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in using nursing instruments and patient care technology systems.

• Experience providing care to individuals with developmental, behavioral, or psychiatric disorders.
• Certified in Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI).
• At least 1 year of contract experience in a similar setting.
• Experience working with Intellectual Disability (ID) patients, Adult Psychiatry, or Autism Spectrum patients.

• Work involves a therapeutic environment with patients requiring psychiatric and behavioral care.
• Shift differential may be available.
• One meal provided per shift.
• Must be flexible with facility scheduling and able to work at multiple campus locations (Warm Springs or Grasslands).
• Use of therapeutic communication and de-escalation techniques is critical.

• 12-hour shifts, primarily 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM (night shift).
• Shift assignments may require flexibility and willingness to work at either main campus location.
• Travel experience and availability for contract duration from November 16, 2026, to May 15, 2027.
