Chemistry Instructor

Overview Glendale Community College is seeking a full‑time, tenure‑track Chemistry Instructor who is equity‑mindful, student‑centered, and committed to closing equity gaps. The position is 10 months per year in the Division of Physical Sciences, with a teaching load of 15 instructional hours per week and five office hours each week. Courses may be taught in‑person, online, hybrid, evening, or Saturday formats. Responsibilities Teach Chemistry courses using demonstrations, active learning strategies, and lectures. Maintain accurate records of attendance, census, grades, and other required documentation. Hold regular posted office hours and be readily available to students. Create a learning environment that supports effective student engagement. Assist in the development and implementation of curriculum, policies, and procedures for the program. Participate in campus governance, professional activities, committees, scheduling, and leadership positions. Engage in continuing education and staff development activities that keep instructional practices current, with a focus on equity initiatives. Work to achieve institutional, program, and student learning outcomes aligned with the college’s mission. Communicate effectively in both oral and written forms. Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with all staff and stakeholders. Demonstrate sensitivity to diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds. Perform additional instructional duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Master’s degree in Chemistry or a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry combined with a Master’s in Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Chemical Physic, Physics, Molecular Biology, Geochemistry, or an equivalent credential. Preferred Qualifications Experience teaching Chemistry courses at the college or university level. Proficiency with a Learning Management System (LMS). Experience in curriculum development. Knowledge of or experience working with students who are underrepresented in higher education, with a focus on reducing equity gaps. Evidence of innovative pedagogy, including active learning and culturally responsive teaching practices. Experience developing and teaching distance education courses. Salary & Benefits Starting salary ranges from $72,928 to $100,966 per year, dependent on education and experience. Salary placement is determined by Article VIII of the Glendale College Guild, Local 2276, Collective Bargaining Agreement. Health and welfare benefits details are outlined in Article XI.
