Electric Arc Furnace Operator (Melter) - Rotational

Job Description

Harrison Steel is looking for individuals to operate their electric arc furnaces (melters). Melters operate and maintain our 20-ton electric arc furnaces and direct the process to melt and refine steel to customers' specifications. Each 'heat' (batch) of liquid steel starts as solid steel recycling and takes approximately 3 hours to liquefy and refine. This position must have availability of any shift and be flexible to move on different shifts with notice.

Melters:

Operate electric arc furnaces safely and following work instructions and specification requirements
Fill out a melting log and summary sheet for each heat of steel melted
Check and monitor all furnace and auxiliary equipment to insure they are in good physical, mechanical, and electrical operating condition
Shift flexibility required

Ideal Melters have:

Experience in a heavy industrial environment operating machines
Basic knowledge of computer applications
Mathematical ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide on the fly
Ability to make quick decisions and monitor the safety of the environment and all others working in the area
