Cath Lab Radiologic Technologist - Ochsner Kenner

Overview This role is part of a multidisciplinary team responsible for the operation of the heart catheterization laboratory suite. The technician operates diagnostic fluoroscopy and various types of cardiac equipment, monitors patient vitals, performs routine calculations, circulates, and assists the physician during procedures. Preparation of procedure rooms, equipment, and patients is also required. The technician serves as liaison to the hospital Radiation Safety Officer (RSO). Education Associate degree in radiologic sciences (required). Bachelor's degree in radiologic sciences (preferred). Work Experience None required. 2 years of allied health experience preferred. Certifications Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA). Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA) within 6 months of hire. Registered Radiologic Technologist in the state of practice and registration from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications. Effective verbal and written communication skills to present information clearly and professionally. Strong interpersonal skills. Detail-oriented with ability to perform complex tasks and detect equipment malfunctions. Ability to interact courteously with a diverse group of internal and external visitors in a high‑stress environment. Ability to learn new procedures. Knowledge of and compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory radiation requirements. Ability to work a flexible schedule (24/7, weekend, holiday, on‑call availability). Job Duties Assists the team with patient setup and preparation before procedures and performs takedown/cleanup post‑procedure using safe patient transfer and positioning techniques. Documents procedures in the log to ensure accurate billing and charge capture. Operates radiographic fluoroscopy equipment to obtain diagnostic images of coronary artery disease and peripheral vascular disease. Conducts hemodynamic monitoring of patients during procedures and reports values to the performing physician. Monitors radiation dose delivery to patients, ensuring safe delivery with minimal exposure to staff. Transmits, archives, and retrieves digital images in picture archiving and communication systems (PACS). Implements quality control standards by using optimal diagnostic imaging and performing regular maintenance of fluoroscopy equipment. Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, respecting privacy, and explaining services or procedures appropriately. Performs other related duties as assigned. Physical and Environmental Demands Medium work: Exerting 20–50 pounds of force occasionally, 10–25 pounds frequently, and more than negligible up to 10 pounds constantly. May involve walking, standing, and pushing or pulling materials. Routine duties expose the employee to blood, bodily fluids, tissue, and communicable diseases, with a risk of hazardous medications or waste.
