Job Description
The Environmental Health and Safety Manager leads the development, implementation, and management of comprehensive environmental, health, and safety programs to ensure regulatory compliance and a safe workplace. This role focuses on hazard reduction, risk assessment, audits, incident response, and EHS training aligned with OSHA and applicable local and state requirements. The manager oversees regulatory reporting and permitting, chemical handling and hazardous waste compliance, and collaborates closely with regulatory agencies and cross-functional teams. This position also establishes meaningful EHS metrics, drives continuous improvement initiatives, and manages safety resources and programs across all site operations.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain environmental, health, and safety programs that ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, AQMD, and applicable local and state regulations.
- Lead risk assessments and hazard analyses to identify, evaluate, and reduce workplace risks across a large manufacturing campus.
- Plan, conduct, and document EHS audits and inspections to verify compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee incident response activities, including incident investigation and root cause analysis, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Manage regulatory reporting and permitting activities related to environmental, health, and safety requirements.
- Oversee safe chemical handling practices, including hazmat handling, compounding, and hazardous waste management and disposal.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local EHS regulations, including OSHA compliance for manufacturing and industrial operations.
- Coordinate with regulatory agencies and internal cross-functional teams to address EHS issues and maintain strong compliance relationships.
- Develop and deliver workplace safety training programs to promote employee engagement, awareness, and safe work practices.
- Establish, track, and report EHS performance metrics to monitor program effectiveness and drive continuous improvement.
- Lead and manage safety resources and programs across site operations, including respirator use, excavation safety, and other high-risk activities.
- Promote a proactive safety culture that emphasizes hazard recognition, risk reduction, and continuous improvement in EHS performance.
- Provide leadership and guidance in EHS matters, leveraging at least 7 years of experience in a leadership role to influence and support all levels of the organization.
- Proven experience managing Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) programs in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Minimum of 5 years of EHS experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
- At least 7 years of experience in a leadership role within safety or EHS functions.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA compliance requirements and related safety standards.
- Working knowledge of federal, state, and local EHS regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and AQMD requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct risk assessments and hazard analyses in complex operations.
- Experience leading incident investigations and performing root cause analysis.
- Proficiency in developing and delivering workplace safety training and driving employee engagement in safety programs.
- Hands-on experience with hazardous materials and hazardous waste handling and compliance.
- Ability to manage and improve EHS metrics and performance indicators across site operations.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with cross-functional teams and regulatory agencies.
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience working within large manufacturing campuses or complex industrial facilities.
- Familiarity with respirator programs and respiratory protection requirements.
- Experience with hazmat handling, hazardous waste management, and compounding operations.
- Exposure to EHS considerations in aerospace or similarly regulated industries.
- Knowledge of safe excavation practices and related EHS controls.
- Ability to influence organizational culture and promote continuous improvement in safety performance.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills for managing regulatory reporting and permits.

Work Environment
This role is based on a large manufacturing campus, providing exposure to diverse industrial operations and EHS challenges. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with a one-hour lunch break, offering predictable daytime hours. The environment involves close interaction with production areas, EHS systems, and compliance processes, including activities such as hazardous materials handling, hazardous waste management, respirator use, and excavation-related work. The position requires regular on-site presence to conduct audits, inspections, training, and incident investigations within an active manufacturing setting.
