Lead Mechanic - Temporary

Automotive Mechanic

Performs major and minor mechanical work including repairs and or replacements on vehicles, school buses and other automotive or power equipment for the District. This position starts immediately and ends in September 2026.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Performs complex work and the repair and maintenance of school buses and other automotive equipment. Determines extent and type of repair needed. Estimates cost of repair prepares invoices as necessary

Oversees vehicle preventative maintenance. Monitors vehicle tune-ups lubrication oil and oil filter

Maintains and repairs all district Vehicles including the bus fleet.

Assures adequate and proper maintenance and repair records are maintained for district vehicles and equipment

Prepares and maintain parts inventory

Prepares for annual state police bus inspections

Perform such duties as diagnosing, repairing, rebuilding, and making necessary adjustments on all vehicle systems.

Maintain thorough knowledge and ability to repair components on all systems, including the ability to operate shop equipment, bus video surveillance systems, and two-way radios.

Perform troubleshooting and related repairs on District vehicles

Maintain a clean and well-organized garage including vehicles as needed

Works closely with director of operations and transportation and bus drivers and preparing for scheduled and unscheduled activities.

Performs all duties and procedures within the health and safety standards as per OSHA and or MIOSHA.

Must be a certified Michigan school bus driver

Takes responsibility for other related duties as assigned by the supervisor

Certifications Must meet the Michigan school bus driver certification and physical examination requirements including the minimum hours of instruction and satisfactorily passing knowledge examination. Valid Michigan driver's license, or has completed the necessary bus driver's courses to secure CDL with the "S" and "P" endorsement.

Must be a certified mechanic.

HD Certifications in gas and diesel engines, brakes, drive train, electrical and steering suspension systems.

Must have HD certification in HD friction and brake training

Must pass drug and alcohol screenings

Compensation shall be commensurate with the employee's education, qualifications, and relevant experience.

The final candidate for this position will be required (at their cost) to furnish the district with a current Michigan State Police and FBI criminal records LiveScan check prior to our recommendation to hire.
