Emergency Services Technician (36 hrs/week)

Schedule 36 hours per week on day/night rotation with rotating weekend shifts and holidays. Open to discussion of a permanent night shift if desired. Job Overview Provide professional and non‑professional nursing care services in accordance with physician orders. Work under the direction of physicians, mid‑level practitioners, and registered nurses as applicable. Coordinate the flow of patient activity and information to and from the Emergency Department, support the patient‑family centered model of care, and maintain competencies in role‑specific skills. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Must pass Phlebotomy Competency training within 3 months. Preferred Qualifications Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Medical Assistant (MA). Certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT or AEMT). Completion of Nursing Fundamentals in an accredited Nursing program. One (1) year of related experience as a Nursing Assistant (NA), Patient Care Assistant (PCA), Critical Care Tech (CCT), or Patient Care Technician (PCT). Two (2) years of healthcare experience, acute setting preferred. Responsibilities Assist the professional registered nurse with functional care of patients, ensuring efficient and patient‑centered care appropriate to developmental age. Perform delegated tasks and communicate all findings/concerns to the professional nurse. Provide or assist with patient care procedures, ensuring patient safety, comfort, and dignity while advocating for the patient. Collect specimens, including phlebotomy; perform specimen testing while maintaining Standard Precautions, and prepare specimens for the lab. Greet patients, families, visitors, and staff; respond to requests promptly, seeking nurse’s supervision as needed. Collect, record, and communicate patient clinical data to the assigned nurse in a timely manner. Prepare rooms for admission/transfer/discharge, ensuring standardized equipment is ready for use. Transport or accompany patients to other areas of the hospital efficiently, safely, and respectfully. Act as a sitter as requested by the nurse, adhering to the sitter guidelines and ensuring patient safety. Provide comfort measures such as positioning, changing linen, back rubs, etc., safely and respectfully. Set up for procedures as requested by nursing/medical staff; clean and discard used equipment and supplies following procedures. Maintain biomedical equipment, check par levels, and ensure working order for blood pressure cuffs, EKG cables, leads, oximeter cables, etc.; send malfunctioning equipment to Medical Engineering per established procedure. Clean wounds, apply dressings, and assist with orthopedic procedures, sutures, pelvic exams, glucose monitoring, and other point‑of‑care testing. Perform 12‑lead EKG and connect monitoring equipment to patients under nurse direction. Care for patient belongings and complete belongings lists. Perform and document patient admission, transfer, and discharge tasks as requested. Answer call lights and seek appropriate personnel/action; perform hourly rounding per established guidelines. Maintain constant communication regarding patient status, including transfers, admissions, discharges, bed changes, and cleaning requests. Support efficient communication within the nursing unit, answer phone calls, triage calls, and relay messages to staff using appropriate etiquette. Coordinate communications regarding outside services, internal/external transfers, discharges to other facilities, and physician changes. Physical Requirements Lifting up to 30‑35 lbs and turning patients; prolonged standing and walking. Occasional twisting, bending, reaching, pushing/pulling, sitting, kneeling, and squatting. Manual dexterity for fine hand manipulation during procedures and computer use. Ability to see computer screen and reports. Ability to communicate visually, verbally, and audibly with healthcare personnel. Skills & Abilities Read, write, and comprehend medical terminology. Excellent interpersonal, phone, and written communication skills. Work with detailed, confidential material and situations. Excellent organizational skills; utilize time effectively and prioritize appropriately. Demonstrate age‑appropriate care knowledge and skills. Problem‑solving and decision‑making skills.
