Pharmacy Manager at Walgreens

$67.05 - $90.55 per hour

Job Summary Provides empathetic pharmacy consulting services to patients regarding the effective use of medications and drug interaction awareness. Offers preventive and clinical healthcare services, including immunizations, diagnostic testing, and patient outcome services. Ensures prescribed medications are compounded, reviewed, dispensed, and verified accurately according to regulatory guidelines and company policies and procedures. Manages an efficient pharmacy workflow and improves pharmacy financials, manages inventory effectively, and enhances patient experience. Manages pharmacy staff performance and engagement. Ensures the professional development of pharmacy staff through training, focused coaching, and formal performance management initiatives. Responsibilities Patient Experience Engage patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. Resolve patient issues in a timely manner and answer questions to ensure a positive patient experience. Model and share customer service best practices with all team members to deliver a distinctive and joyful patient experience. Connect with patients by anticipating needs and proactively offering services. Enhance patient experience by increasing awareness of healthcare services offered through Walgreens. Participate and assist in community events as requested by Store Manager, Healthcare Supervisor, or District Manager. Operations Counsel patients and answer questions regarding medicine usage, side effects, interactions, and privacy. Refer to medical providers as needed to ensure medication adherence and patient satisfaction. Perform pharmacist tasks including compounding, drug therapy reviews, verification, and medication management. Review, interpret, and accurately dispense prescribed medications. Ensure pharmacy operates in accordance with regulations, company policies, and standards. Establish procedures that promote efficient workflow, oversee staff scheduling, assign roles, and coordinate activities. Open and close the pharmacy, manage shift changes, and apply Good Faith Dispensing policy. Collaborate with Store Manager to define and develop new strategic business opportunities. Maintain knowledge of pharmacy systems, billing, clinical documentation, inventory management, and point of sale registers. Ensure accurate insurance claims processing and resolve issues with insurance companies and providers. Participate in third‑party audits and clarify prescribed medications with medical providers. Perform clinical and wellness services such as immunizations, diagnostic testing, and disease state management. Support pharmacy staff and patients with information technology and troubleshoot issues. Manage maintenance, housekeeping, and improvement of the pharmacy department. Prepare and submit all required records, reports, and documentation. People & Performance Management Collaborate with Store Manager on pharmacy staff hiring, discipline, and termination. Establish expectations and goals, promote teamwork, and foster a shared vision. Recognize staff improvements through rewards programs. Oversee training and conduct formal performance reviews. Identify high‑potential team members and manage career progression. Address employee relations concerns and maintain team morale. Training & Personal Development Maintain required licensing, credentialing, and certification. Enhance knowledge through pharmacy journals and Walgreens publications. Complete education credits and training modules. Seek professional development through feedback and mentorship. Communications Support Store Manager by communicating corporate health and wellness services or strategy information to pharmacy staff. Business Performance Management Analyze performance data including financials, customer service, and inventory. Manage pharmacy asset protection activities and oversee inventory management. Identify performance trends and improvement opportunities. Business Planning Develop and maintain relationships with local medical community. Promote pharmacy business to enhance growth opportunities. Support Store Manager in expanding health and wellness awareness. Basic Qualifications BS in Pharmacy or Pharm D degree from an accredited institution. Current pharmacist licensure in the district states. Certified immunizer or willing to become an immunizer within 90 days of hire. At least 1 year of pharmacy experience, including prescription filling, recordkeeping, legal compliance, operations, pharmacy software, technology systems, and insurance billing. Strong knowledge of applicable state and federal controlled substance laws. Average rating of at least 3.0 on leadership behaviors in the last performance review (if on file) and no written disciplinary actions in the last 12 months (internal candidates only). Preferred Qualifications Supervisory experience planning, organizing, and directing pharmacy staff. At least 6 months of pharmacy experience with Walgreens Co. Average rating of 3.7 or above on leadership behaviors in the last performance review (if on file) (internal candidates only).
