Environmental EngineerThe Environmental Engineer will support a diverse portfolio of environmental projects, including site assessments, remediation activities, regulatory compliance initiatives, and redevelopment efforts. This role offers a strong blend of field and office responsibilities, with a primary focus on hands-on environmental investigation, data analysis, and technical reporting. Initially, approximately 75% of the workload will be field-based and 25% office-based, shifting to a more balanced 50/50 split during the winter months. All project work is local and typically within an hour of the office, providing excellent exposure to a wide variety of residential, municipal, commercial, and industrial projects and a clear path for professional growth and development.ResponsibilitiesConduct soil, groundwater, stormwater, air, and soil gas sampling in the field, ensuring high-quality data collection and adherence to established protocols.Perform environmental compliance inspections at residential, municipal, commercial, and industrial sites to evaluate adherence to applicable federal, state, and local regulations.Support environmental due diligence and assessment projects, including Phase I and Phase II investigations and related remediation and compliance activities.Assist with permitting efforts by preparing and submitting regulatory applications and documentation to relevant agencies to maintain project compliance.Prepare clear, accurate, and defensible technical reports, including data interpretation, narrative summaries, and recommendations for remediation or mitigation.Support the design and implementation of vapor mitigation and remediation systems, including system layout, specification review, and coordination with installation teams.Oversee installation of environmental controls and mitigation systems in the field, monitoring progress and verifying that systems meet design and regulatory requirements.Support ongoing operation and maintenance of remediation and vapor mitigation systems to ensure performance, regulatory compliance, and long-term effectiveness.Contribute to air quality evaluations and emissions analyses, using appropriate tools and modeling software to assess impacts and support regulatory compliance.Collaborate closely with project managers to plan and execute project tasks, manage schedules, and communicate project status and findings.Coordinate effectively with subcontractors during field activities, including scheduling, site access, safety oversight, and quality control of subcontractor work.Apply knowledge of state regulations, including those issued by EGLE, to guide project decisions and ensure compliance in sampling, reporting, and system design.Use environmental data platforms and software tools to organize, analyze, and present field and analytical data in a clear and accessible format.Manage multiple concurrent projects and tasks, prioritizing workload to meet deadlines and client expectations while maintaining high data quality standards.Make sound, informed decisions in the field when unexpected conditions arise, adjusting work plans as needed while preserving safety and regulatory compliance.Contribute to the delivery of accurate, defensible, and high-quality results for a variety of clients, including those supported through housing development and municipal initiatives.Essential SkillsBachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a closely related field; Chemical Engineering degree is also considered.3 to 6 years of relevant environmental or engineering experience, including exposure to field work and regulatory compliance.Demonstrated experience with environmental field sampling, including soil, groundwater, soil gas, air, and stormwater.Experience conducting environmental compliance assessments and inspections.Familiarity with air quality evaluations, vapor mitigation systems, or remediation systems and their operation.Knowledge of state environmental regulations, including those administered by EGLE.Strong technical writing skills with the ability to produce clear, detailed, and defensible reports and regulatory submittals.Solid data analysis capabilities, including interpretation of environmental sampling results and analytical data.Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications for documentation, analysis, and communication.Experience using environmental data platforms and tools such as GIS, LogPlot, or comparable software.Valid driver's license with a clean driving record to travel to local project sites.Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines while maintaining high standards of quality and compliance.Additional Skills & Qualifications40-hour HAZWOPER certification required, demonstrating training in hazardous waste operations and emergency response.Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred, indicating progress toward professional licensure.Professional Engineer (PE) license or active progress toward PE licensure is a plus.Experience with air quality modeling software and related tools for emissions analysis and regulatory evaluations.Experience supporting remediation and compliance projects, including system design, implementation, and monitoring.Comfort working in both field and office settings, adapting to seasonal shifts in workload and project demands.Strong collaboration and communication skills to work effectively with project managers, team members, and subcontractors.Detail-oriented approach with a focus on data integrity, regulatory compliance, and defensible project documentation.Work EnvironmentThe work environment combines significant field activity with office-based analysis and reporting. Initially, approximately 75% of the role involves fieldwork, including soil, groundwater, stormwater, air, and soil gas sampling, inspections of construction sites, and coordination of subcontractors at various local locations, typically within an hour of the office. During the winter months, the workload shifts to a roughly 50/50 split between field and office work. Field activities may occur at residential, municipal, commercial, and industrial sites, often involving active construction environments and the use of standard environmental sampling equipment and monitoring instruments. Office work centers on data analysis, technical report writing, regulatory submittals, and project coordination using tools such as Microsoft Office, GIS, LogPlot, air quality modeling software, and other environmental data platforms. The organization offers an integrated approach to site design that includes civil engineering, land surveying, landscape architecture, and geotechnical consulting, providing exposure to multidisciplinary teams and a collaborative culture. The company has been established for decades and operates in multiple offices across Michigan and Texas, supporting projects in more than 20 states. Work hours are primarily full-time, with eligibility for double-time compensation when working more than 40 hours and on weekends, including Saturdays.
