The role
McCalls Catering & Events is looking for a Day-Time Lead Chef for the Legion Café, located inside the Legion of Honor Museum at Lincoln Park in San Francisco.
This is a full-time post. Attendance will be required in line with the business requirements, including at weekends, holidays and in the early mornings as well as evenings, based on rotating scheduling.
Key Responsibilities
You will lead day-to-day kitchen operations and help deliver a smooth, high-quality food service. Your duties will include:
- Maintaining excellent food quality, presentation, and portion control
- Preparing dishes to set standards and service requirements
- Managing stock levels, deliveries, storage, rotation, and waste records
- Supporting stock audits and clear shift handovers
- Developing menus with a focus on quality, service standards, and profitability
- Leading chefs and stewards in a collaborative, efficient kitchen
- Supporting café catering services when required
- Keeping equipment, utensils, floors, walls, and surfaces clean and safe
- Following Health & Safety, Food Hygiene, OSHA, and company procedures
- Valid California Food Handlers Card & Manager ServeSafe Certified
- Constant standing and walking
- Frequent lifting/pushing/pulling objects & occasionally lifting/pushing/pulling objects up to 50 lbs, rarely lifting/pushing/pulling objects up to 100 lbs (with assistance).

The person
You will need at least 3 years of Lead Chef experience, or 4 years as a Sous Chef in large-volume operations.
You should also bring:
- Supervisory experience in a busy commercial kitchen
- Experience with menu and product development
- Experience high-volume kitchens
- Strong organization, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Great guest service skills and attention to detail
- A valid California Food Handlers Card and Manager ServSafe certification
- Ability to stand and walk for long periods, lift safely, and support catering operations
- A professional, well-groomed appearance
- Bilingual English and Spanish speakers are welcomed.

- This is an salaried position. Attendance will be required in line with the business requirements, including at weekends, holidays and in the early mornings as well as evenings, based on rotating scheduling.
