Senior Community Health Nurse

Provide program oversight to ensure all requirements are met for the School Health program mandated by FL Statutes. Represent the Florida Department of Health as the School Health Coordinator by participating in required School Health Advisory Committee (SHAC) quarterly meetings and School Health Coordinator meetings. Collaborate with school district personnel, community partners, and Department of Health leadership to support compliance with state laws, administrative rules, and School Health Services requirements Complete and submit any required meeting reports, action items, or follow-up activities within established timelines. Submit all reports due as assigned. Disseminate pertinent information to program leadership as appropriate. Conduct ongoing regulatory health room audits through scheduled site visits to evaluate compliance with Florida Department of Health policies, state statutes, administrative rules, and School Health Services standards. Review designated audit components throughout the school year to promote continuous quality improvement, provide technical assistance, and ensure sustained regulatory compliance. Document audit findings, communicate recommendations and required corrective actions, and monitor follow-up to ensure timely resolution of identified deficiencies. Maintain confidentiality of client interactions and services according to HIPAA and FERPA privacy policies. Review and monitor compliance with Florida school immunization requirements by conducting regulatory audits of kindergarten and seventh grade student health records in accordance with Florida statutes, Florida Department of Health policies and School Health Services guidelines.

Knowledge of Florida school health statutes, administrative rules, and Florida Department of Health policies and procedures Knowledge of nursing and public health principles, practices, and techniques Knowledge of School Health Services program administration, regulatory compliance, and quality assurance principles Knowledge of school health reporting requirements and data management practices Knowledge of Health Management System (HMS), FOCUS Student Information System, and Microsoft applications Knowledge of public health principles, confidentiality requirements, and records management Ability to interpret and apply federal, state, and local laws, regulations, policies and procedures related to school health services Ability to prioritize workload and manage multiple assignments while meeting established timelines Ability to prepare reports and maintain accurate records Ability to review, validate, analyze, and interpret data for accuracy, completeness, and regulatory compliance. Ability to conduct regulatory audits, document findings, and monitor corrective actions Ability to identify compliance issues and recommend appropriate corrective measures Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with Department of Health staff, school district personnel, community partners, and other stakeholders Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external partners Ability to provide technical assistance and regulatory guidance Ability to organize projects, coordinate activities, and manage competing priorities with minimal supervision Ability to exercise sound judgement, maintain confidentiality, and demonstrate professionalism in all interactions Ability to represent the Florida Department of Health professionally while serving as primary liaison with the Nassau County School District and community partners. Ability to work with people of different races, language, culture, or socioeconomic status Ability to adapt to necessary changes in duties, duty station or work hours Ability to bend, squat, or stand for prolonged periods of time, and lift items up to 30 pounds Ability to teach students and school personnel specific health issues, promotion of wellness, maintenance and prevention of illnesses Ability to assess clients and make sound nursing judgements independently Ability to maintain accurate and appropriate medical documentation in EHR system Ability to safely administer medications and immunizations within scope of practice Skills in computer, laptop and standard office equipment necessary to perform assigned duties Skills in multi-function copier, scanner, printer Skills in telephone, cellular phone, and other communication devices Skills in internet-based meeting platforms (Microsoft Teams, Zoom, etc) State-issued or personal vehicle for travel to school sites, meetings, and other work-related locations

Minimum: Associate of Science Degree in Nursing Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in accordance with Florida Statute 464 Must be able to bend, squat, or stand for prolonged time, and lift items up to 30 pounds Participate in disaster preparedness and response activities as assigned. These activities may require working before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the employee includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural. Preferred: 3+ years of experience working in a school health program Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree Knowledge of state regulations of the School Health Program
