Position Type Middle School Teaching/ Language Arts Date Posted 5/8/2026 Middle School 7th Grade ELA Classroom Teacher Definition Under general supervision of the principal and/or designated administrator, plans and implements an instructional program and provides related educational services for students in 7th grade. Manages student behavior, assesses and evaluates student achievement, and modifies instructional activities as required. Carries out a variety of student monitoring and control activities; performs related duties as required or assigned. Spanish Preferred. Distinguishing Characteristics Positions cover middle school 7th grade classroom teachers and perform duties within a team or departmental setting, or work independently in a unique teaching specialty. Classification Certified/Exempt Typical Tasks Assess student abilities relative to desired educational goals, objectives, and outcomes; assess accomplishments regularly and provide progress reports. Plan appropriate instructional/learning strategies and activities, determine principles of learning, classroom organizational structures, material level. Implement instructional program providing appropriate learning experiences for each student. Manage learner behavior in instructional setting, assist and participate in student behavior management school-wide. Coordinate instructional activities and collaborate with school and non‑school based staff to maximize learning. Utilize instructional materials and multimedia/computer technology to enhance learning. Request assistance from and work with resource personnel as needed. Work in self‑contained, team, departmental, itinerant, or field work site as assigned. Participate in in‑service, staff development, staff meetings as required. Assess student achievement, maintain assessment and evaluation documentation. Ensure continuous communication with parents, both written and oral. Provide age‑appropriate communication with students on instructional expectations. Manage allotted learning time to maximize student achievement. Supervise instructional assistants and parent/student volunteers as applicable. Maintain classroom environment attractive, healthful, safe, with materials in good condition and accessible. Support or participate in school‑wide student activities and approved fundraising. Monitor behavior in non‑instructional areas, intervene to control/modify disruptive behavior, report to administrators as appropriate. Collaborate with guidance counselors, librarians, etc. to carry out school‑wide activities. Supervisory Responsibilities Supervise students, teacher aides, and volunteers in the classroom. Education and/or Experience Minimum: Bachelor of Arts degree with an education minor/major. Four‑year degree in area of major study. Must have obtained the endorsement in said area or have had coursework within the previous ten years. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Teachers at the middle school level (secondary 6‑8) may teach in self‑contained or departmentalized setting. Must hold a valid teaching certificate for the grade level (Type 03, Type 09, or Type 10) and comply with middle‑grades requirements/endorsements for departmentalized subject. Language Skills Must be able to read, analyze, and interpret professional periodicals, journals, and technical procedures. Must write reports and procedure manuals, present information, and respond to questions from groups. Reasoning Skills Must solve practical problems and handle variable situations with limited standardization. Must interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Other Skills and Abilities Applied current research and theory to instructional programming. Plan and implement lessons based on State and District Learning Standards. Meet needs and abilities of assigned students. Establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, and parents. Excellent oral and written communication. Perform duties with awareness of district/state requirements and Board of Education policies. Spanish Preferred. Physical Demands Employee frequently stands, talks, hears; sometimes sits and walks. Salary & Benefits In accordance with the current Beach Park District 3 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA): Salary Schedule: Placement on "Step and Lane" schedule based on verified years of experience and graduate‑level credit hours. BA with 0‑3 years $46,284.05 through MA 36 $76,025.41.
