Unit Information

Unit: Pediatric Cardiac ICU
Location: Denver, CO
Number of Beds: 10
Staffing: 6 RNs partnering with the PICU

Staffing Guidelines

Day Shift: 1 Charge RN, RNs to maintain a 1:2 nurse-patient ratio for critical care.

Night Shift: 1 Charge RN, RNs to maintain a 1:2 nurse-patient ratio for critical care.

Patient Care and Equipment

Patient Ratios: 1:2 (estimate, not guaranteed)
Equipment: Phillips monitors, Medfusion pumps, Baxter pumps
Electronic Medical Record (EMR): Meditech

Required Qualifications

Minimum 2 years of Cardiac Critical Care experience
Current ACLS, BLS, & PALS certifications

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Peritoneal dialysis
CRRT skills
ECMO bedside experience

Typical Procedures

Post-operative care of inotropic and vasopressor continuous infusions
Intravenous fluid and chest tube management
Care for post-sternotomy/open chest patients
Moderate sedation administration

Work Schedule

Weekend Commitment: 4 shifts within a 4-week schedule.

Our RN staff averages 10 years of nursing experience and demonstrates a strong commitment to evidence-based practice, quality metrics, and patient care.

This unit serves as the EMCO Center of the hospital for medical neonates and cardiac patients. We utilize advanced equipment such as centrimag, prismax, and Arctic Sun to support our complex patient needs. Our team of board-certified pediatric/congenital heart intensivists is eager to partner with nurses in providing the highest level of compassionate critical care.
