Job details Job location: River House – Portland, OR 97214 Position type: Full Time Salary range: $22.58 – $28.35 hourly Shift: Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 5:00pm Position Overview The Billing Specialist enters medical, mental health, and addictions charges for all facilities by auditing authorizations, diagnosis, copayment, payment allocation, insurance options, and eligibility of coverage. The specialist researches and resolves denied and rejected insurance claims, processes payments and refunds, and manages related tasks. What you will do Follow up on outstanding insurance A/R accounts. Review EOBs, research, and resubmit claims. Verify eligibility using online sources. Enter tickets and review associated reports. Record traceable notes on work tickets. Bill secondary carriers. Direct work to a specific batch for processing. File batches. Process bad‑debt write‑off tickets. Submit and file claims to DSHS. Train and gain proficiency on new and updated internal and external systems and databases. Process other revenue‑cycle projects and tasks as requested. Qualifications High School Diploma or GED required. Minimum of one (1) year of medical office billing experience required. Medical Billing Certificate preferred. Familiarity with CPT, ICD‑10, and HCPCS preferred. Highly proficient with practice‑management software, Athena Practice (previously Centricity) preferred. Experience with OHP, Medicare and managed healthcare. Intermediate to advanced proficiency with MS Office applications. High level of accuracy and attention to detail. Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality. Knowledge of medical terminology. Basic math skills and general accounting procedures. Customer‑service principles and practices. Proficient in data entry and management. Ability to operate a 10‑key and type 35wpm. Ability to use a multi‑line phone. Demonstrated ability to complete documentation per government regulations and NARA NW policies. Must pass a pre‑employment or for‑cause drug test. Must pass a criminal background and DMV check.
