Vice President of Academic Affairs
\n \nPosition Summary
\nThe Vice President of Academic Affairs serves as the New York Academy of Art's chief
\nacademic officer and provides strategic leadership for all academic programs, faculty, and
\neducational initiatives. Reporting directly to the President and serving as a member of the senior
\nleadership team, the Vice President is responsible for advancing academic excellence, student
\nsuccess, faculty development, curriculum innovation, and institutional effectiveness.
\nThe Vice President oversees the Academy's Master of Fine Arts (MFA) and Certificate of Fine
\nArts (CFA) programs; leads curriculum development, assessment, and reform; manages
\naccreditation and academic planning; and ensures that academic programs remain aligned with
\nthe Academy's mission and strategic priorities. The position provides leadership for all full-time,
\npart-time, and adjunct faculty, including recruitment, evaluation, mentoring, and professional
\ndevelopment.
\n \nThe Vice President also oversees key academic support functions, including Student Services,
\nthe Registrar, the Library, and Institutional Accreditation, ensuring a coordinated and student-
\ncentered approach to academic operations and compliance. The successful candidate will be an
\naccomplished academic leader with a distinguished artistic practice and a strong record of
\nachievement in higher education, faculty leadership, curriculum development, and organizational
\nmanagement.
\n \nDuties and Responsibilities
\n• Provide strategic leadership for all academic programs and initiatives.
\n• Collaborate with the Faculty Chair of the Academy’s MFA and CFA programs and MFA
\nFaculty Committee to lead curriculum development, assessment, and reform to ensure
\nalignment with the Academy's mission and educational objectives.
\n• Oversee faculty recruitment, hiring, evaluation, development, and succession planning
\nfor full-time, part-time, and adjunct faculty.
\n• Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing academic culture that supports
\nexcellence in teaching, learning, and artistic practice.
\n• Ensure compliance with accreditation standards and lead accreditation, assessment, and
\ninstitutional effectiveness initiatives.2
\n• Oversee academic planning, budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.
\n• Promote student success, retention, and degree completion through effective academic
\nsupport and assessment practices.
\n• Provide administrative oversight for Student Services, the Registrar, the Library, and
\nInstitutional Accreditation.
\n• Develop partnerships with peer institutions, cultural organizations, and external
\nstakeholders that strengthen the Academy's academic profile.
\n• Partner closely with the Director of Admissions & Recruitment to develop enrollment
\nstrategies that support the Academy's mission, uphold academic standards, and achieve
\ninstitutional enrollment goals.
\n• Provide academic leadership throughout the admissions process by participating in
\nportfolio reviews, applicant evaluations, admissions committee deliberations, and the
\ndevelopment of admissions policies and standards.
\n• Ensure consistency and excellence in the evaluation of applicants by maintaining
\nportfolio review standards, admissions criteria, and faculty calibration throughout the
\nadmissions process.
\n• Represent the Academy at recruitment events, portfolio reviews, accepted student
\nprograms, open houses, alumni events, and other public-facing initiatives that support
\nstudent recruitment and institutional visibility.
\n• Support the professional development and long-term success of Academy alumni by
\nworking collaboratively with the Alumni Association of the New York Academy of Art
\n(AANYAA) to strengthen alumni engagement, mentorship opportunities, professional
\nprogramming, residencies, and career development initiatives.
\n• Serve as liaison to the Academic Committee of the Board of Trustees.
\n• Collaborate with the President and senior leadership team on institutional planning,
\npolicy development, and strategic initiatives.
\n• Represent the Academy in academic, professional, and public settings.
\n• Provide advice and support for the Academy’s Continuing Education/Academy
\nEverywhere programs
\n \nQualifications
\n• Distinguished record of achievement as an artist, educator, curator, scholar, or arts leader.
\n• Advanced academic credentials in studio art or a related discipline.
\n• Significant academic leadership experience in higher education, preferably at the
\ngraduate level.
\n• Experience supervising faculty and academic staff.
\n• Demonstrated success in curriculum development, assessment, and academic innovation.
\n• Experience with accreditation processes, including MSCHE, NASAD, or comparable
\naccrediting bodies.
\n• Proven ability to lead strategic initiatives and organizational change.
\n• Commitment to shared governance and collaborative leadership.
\n• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

\n \nReporting Relationship
\nThe Vice President of Academic Affairs reports directly to the President and serves as a member
\nof the Academy's senior leadership team.
\n \nCompensation
\nThe salary range for this position is $150,000–$175,000, commensurate with experience and
\nqualifications. The Academy offers a competitive benefits package and the opportunity to play a
\nleading role in shaping the future of the nation's premier graduate school of figurative and
\ncontemporary art.
\n \nThis is a full-time position with a five-day workweek. The Vice President is expected to be on
\ncampus at least three days per week, with the flexibility to work remotely up to two days per
\nweek, subject to change based on institutional needs. The position also requires occasional
\nevening and weekend commitments, including recruitment events, Academy open houses,
\nalumni programs, and other institutional activities.
