Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team. The ideal candidate will provide high-quality care to critically ill newborns in a Level 4 NICU setting.

Position Details

• Unit Type: NICU (Level 4)
• Shift Length: 12 hours
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
• Weekend Requirement: 4 total weekend shifts per 4 weeks (Saturdays and Sundays)
• Holidays: Based on unit coverage

Responsibilities

• Provide exceptional nursing care to critically ill neonates
• Administer medications and treatments in accordance with established protocols
• Maintain a sterile field during procedures and interventions
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes
• Perform assessments and monitor patients for any changes in condition
• Educate families on care strategies and protocols

Qualifications

• Years of Experience: Minimum 3 years of Level 4 NICU experience required; busy Level 3 NICU experience may also be considered
• Required Certifications: BLS Certification, NRP; Cardiac STABLE certification is a plus
• Familiarity with EMR: Experience with Cerner preferred
• Travel Experience: Previous travel experience preferred

Unit Information

• Bed Capacity: 71 total beds, including 17 stepdown beds
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios: 1:2 in ICU, 1:3 in Level 2
• Support Staff: 1 Patient Care Technician (PCT) per shift
• Specialties: Care for premature infants, infants with cardiac defects, genetic disorders, and surgical cases
• Orientation: 2-3 days of floor-specific orientation

Additional Notes

Travelers will be required to complete a SIMs Lab for Foley catheter insertion as part of their onboarding process. Strong knowledge of maintaining a sterile field is critical. Candidates unsure of their competency in sterile techniques may not be a suitable fit for this position.
