Drafter/Designer

Seeking a Project Drafter to support a growing portfolio of defense and specialty manufacturing projects. This individual will work closely with Project Leaders, Designers, Engineers, and Manufacturing personnel to develop detailed fabrication and assembly drawings for custom products, structures, and modules. The ideal candidate will have strong SolidWorks experience, a background in sheet metal and welded assemblies, and the ability to create production-ready drawing packages in an AS9100-regulated environment. This is a hands-on, project-focused role that requires collaboration, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

• Create and revise detailed fabrication, assembly, and installation drawings using SolidWorks.
• Develop manufacturing documentation, technical drawing packages, and bills of materials for production.
• Produce detailed drawings for sheet metal components, welded assemblies, structural fabrications, and modular systems.
• Interpret engineering requirements, customer specifications, and manufacturing standards.
• Apply GD&T, AWS A2.4 welding symbols, and drafting standards to manufacturing documentation.
• Ensure drawings and documentation comply with AS9100 quality requirements and internal processes.
• Collaborate with Project Leaders, Designers, Manufacturing, and Quality teams throughout the project lifecycle.
• Support engineering change requests, drawing revisions, and configuration control processes.
• Review designs for manufacturability, completeness, and accuracy prior to release.
• Assist with technical documentation and drawing package development for defense and aerospace-related projects.

Essential Skills

• SolidWorks experience creating production-ready fabrication drawings.
• Experience with sheet metal design and detailing.
• Experience detailing welded assemblies and weldments.
• Familiarity with AWS A2.4 welding symbols.
• Experience working in an AS9100, aerospace, defense, or highly regulated manufacturing environment.
• Associate degree in Drafting, Design Technology, Engineering Technology, or a related field preferred.
• 2+ years of drafting or detailing experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Proficiency with SolidWorks 2024.
• Knowledge of GD&T and drafting standards.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and fabrication methods.
• Experience maintaining bills of materials, revisions, and drawing release documentation.
• Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Certified SolidWorks Professional (CSWP) certification preferred.
• Experience working within an AS9100-regulated manufacturing environment.
• Experience supporting aerospace or defense-related programs.
• Familiarity with AWS A2.4 welding symbols and drafting standards.
• Knowledge of welded fabrication practices and AWS D1.1 requirements.
• Experience creating technical drawing packages for production and fabrication.
• Experience supporting custom manufacturing, fabricated structures, modular systems, trailers, defense products, or specialty equipment.

Work Environment

In-office, Monday through Friday, with flexible start times available.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Saint Charles, MO.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $37.00 - $45.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
